I just wanted to bump this post (although it's old) bc I have the same question. 
Pen Carlson photographed our wedding recently and our photos turned out beautiful. They are great to work with- professional, friendly and very creative. The photos on their blog are a good example of their style, based on how our photos turned out. They really like candids/action photos and so do we over posed, traditional photos (but we still took quite a few of the latter). They have an artistic eye with all of the warmth and emotion that wedding photos should have.

Pen Carlson were recommended to us by our wedding cinematographers StillMotion when we were expecting a baby (we were looking for a photojournalistic story about the birth of our child from leaving the hospital to a more formal portrait setting).
They are so warm and friendly and very accommodating - I wish I had used them for our wedding, though this is not to diss our original wedding photographer.
I was able to see their sample albums and they are gorgeous, the shots very emotional and tell a story. Our baby photoshoot was very laid back and we are excited to see the results!

Can't recommend them highly enough. We took engagement pictures with them in September 2009 and they photographed our wedding in July 2010. Brett and Kiri are wonderful, warm people and are truly amazing at what they do. We have gotten more compliments on our wedding photos than I can count. Most importantly, my husband and I love them! They are also great at album design; we just finished going through that process with them and it was a pleasure.
Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some feedback from your experiences with Pen Carlson-- my fiance and I are considering them for our fall 2013 wedding, and their work looks amazing. I was just wondering if you, in retrospect, would have changed anything about your experience with them, or if there is anything you would have done differently. Also, from what I've been told they've increased their prices quite a bit over the past few years, so I was wondering (and I apologize if this seems very intrusive) if anyone could give me a ballpark figure of how much you spent with them. We're trying to figure out our budget, but photography is a huge priority for us. THANK YOU so much in advance for any feedback!

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone ever used Pen Carlson Photography for their wedding and/or engagement session?
They are a Chicago-based husband and wife photography team and have been featured on theKnot.com as well as theKnot magazine.
