What about a kennel?  I know they make some big ones too, I used one with my great dane.

@kb7:  I’m afraid I don’t have any suggestions – a baby gate used to be fine for my dog, who was a large labrador, often mistaken for a rotty cross, but he was extremely placid and tended to not bother trying to get out (and he also discovered the path of least resistance was the swing door on the other side of the kitchen that we used to prop closed with a large whiskey bottle full of coins – until he got strong enough to push it anyway!)

However, I wouldn’t say no to seeing a picture of your pup! Rotties are gorgeous! 😀

I would get a large crate and put him in that. We had a 130 lb rottweiler who was completely crate trained and that is where he went when we weren’t home. They are a little pricey but are worth it.

Do you have a mud room or basement area that you can use?  I had a friend who had a half-door constructed to the mudroom for her gigantic sheepdog.  Basically a whole door cut in half so each half swung independently.  Looked weird, but made sense.  Bottom portion maintained the locking mechanism, top portion had a sliding lock on it.

@kb7:  For the record, you can absolutely put a dog in a crate for five hours.  It’ll help with potty training too.  It’s always an adjustment at first, but dogs come to love their crates and look at it as their safe space.

ETA: I just saw he’s only 11 weeks old, probably can’t do more than 3-4 hours at this point, but I’d still look into it for the future.

@kb7:  is there a specific reason why you can’t? Or you just feel bad
