Just wondering if someone who has been here before can help me out. I just want to know what is legally required by law. My main question is I know that we get 12 weeks for pregnancy and care of a newborn. I know that we’re allowed to use those 12 weeks over the course of one year. At my job my year starts from the first time I need to use FMLA to be off (if I had an MD appointment or morning sickness or something). My question is what are the parameters for use of the time off.
For example, if I take 10 weeks after birth to stay home with the baby and have two weeks left, is it totally my discretion when to use them? For example my daycare is going to be closed the days before and after holidays but my job is not, can I use this coverage to take time off to care for the child on those days? Or, is it solely for days when the baby is sick and I have to go to the doctor and get a doctor’s note to use that time?
I have emailed HR and am getting the run around (likely b/c me being able to dictate when I’m off for a year isn’t good for business needs) so I thought I would see if anyone had some insight for me on here 🙂 Thanks.
