FI will be home in a few weeks and I told him we would go do something fun while he is home for a few days. Well most places in the Panhandle are only a 3-4 hour drive from us... but I have never been over that way, and was wondering if you would have any suggestions on things to do/places to eat or stay and stuff like that. We are basically up for anything!  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi! I'm not from there but FI and I rented a condo and stayed for a month last nov/dec. Our condo was on Okaloosa Island, which was between Fort Walton and Destin. You might want to check vacation rentals by owner or homeaway for condo rentals as there aren't many hotels that are on the beach....holiday inn in destin is. One of the best places we ate was Old Bay Steamers and it's on Okaloosa. I think we got a lobster steamer for two... It had 2 lobster tails, snow crab, king crab, shrimp...served in a bucket with corn and potatoes and a bug bowl of salad. It was amazing! Then the Helen Back is also on the island and has the best pizza...seriously ate it at least once a week. McGuire's Irish Pub is in destin right as you come across the bridge. Food was really good and the portions were enormous. Breakfast at the Florida House and Another Broken Egg Cafe. I wanted to try Dewey Destins but didn't get around to it. AJ's and Fudpuckers are the two main touristy places but we didn't go since the reviews were mixed and the locals didn't recommend them unless you just wanted the experience...although I'm sure this time of year they'd be really fun. We didn't do a whole of activities, weather didn't really cooperate, but I would definitely do a dolphin cruise. We could see them swimming when we'd cross the bridge into Destin. Destin also has an outdoor mall and outlet shopping center....which is freaking huge. I guess it just depends what you want to do. They have boat and wave runner rentals, parasailing, the dolphin cruise, sea blaster boats, dinner cruises. We took a more laid back approach and just relaxed and I did some shopping. Fort Walton has a good selection of antique stores and neat little shops downtown. For us Okaloosa island was the perfect location. It took maybe 5 minutes to get to fort walton and maybe 10 to 15 to get to destin...but we didn't mind the drive with all the beautiful scenery to look at!

Lol yeah I don't think I could either. I'm not really the adventurous type. I forgot to mention that there's a pier on Okaloosa and you can fish off of it. They even rent poles there. So much cheaper than going out on a boat.
