So it’s been over a month now and people are still talking about my wedding….

First I have to say Natassa was absolutely amazing, I live far from the venue and we work until well in to the evening. My husband and I were very pleased with the convenience of our appointments; yes many of them. We were kept up to date with all the changes and renovations being done to the venue, we booked a year and a half before the big day so it was nice to see some concerns we expressed come together, i.e. upholstery of the furniture and an additional bar. If you are ever in the market for a wedding coordinator you know they cost a few thousand dollars and that was just not in our budget, we didn’t need one with all Natassa did for us.

First, we had 3 tasting, very unheard of in the wedding industry. We tasted every dish and passed hor d’oeuvres in addition to our 2 signature drinks until we were completely satisfied. We even brought our families with us, since they were a little concerned about the untraditional venue we had chosen, they were flawed by the food and knew why we wouldn’t get married anywhere else.

Our outside vendors such as our photographer and DJ also came along with us to appointments hosted by Natassa to ensure everyone was on the same page, this helped immensely. Our vendors never once stopped us throughout the wedding; they went straight to Natassa for anything they needed. Natassa made sure my wedding party was all together for our entrance and had anything and everything we needed at all times.

The linens & runners I wanted were not included in my wedding package so Natassa agreed to split the cost and ordered everything themselves, saving me time and a trip to deliver them.

When we arrived from our ceremony and pictures we were exhausted, the front desk had already checked us in and before we could even close the door Natassa was there to see if we needed anything and immediately sent down hor d’oeuvres and water. Every hor d’oeuvres was delightful, our favorite being tuna tartar on a crispy wonton, sushi, pine nut meatballs, slice beef with horseradish and the lobster roll. At our request they also offered both a soup or salad, tomato chili gazpacho (perfectly served and flavored) or organic greens with an Asian orange dressing. We had an open bar and our guest made sure they took full advantage, I requested no shots until later in the party to keep everyone on their toes lol and the bartenders were all on the same page. Our only issue was at first there were not enough bartenders at the large bar inside but that was quickly fixed.

I have to say from the owner down to the wait staff took excellent care of the tables, dishes were never lingering (a pet peeve of mine) and the owner even got down on his hands and knees to clean a sauce I had spilled on my dress. Yes the owner! Annie was also a great help communicating details and accommodating our time with Natassa leading up to the event.

We had such a warm and humid day, but it was apparent our guests were having such a good time they didn’t seem to mind much. Right before our first dance it started to drizzle a little but the staff was ready to go and closed the retractable roof and walls right away, opening it maybe 10 minutes later just in time for my father daughter dance when the sun peeked through again.

The view was something I offered my guest that was priceless, especially at night. It is absolutely breathtaking. My husband was showing off some pictures of our wedding at work and someone even asked him where he got that beautiful backdrop lol, the bridge is so close it looks fake and the best part is you don’t hear any noise at all coming from the traffic just above.

The food was absolutely amazing!!!! The only bad thing I can say was some people were given their steak either over cooked or under cooked but it was basically just a mix up of where the plate belonged at the table setting. My father tasted the chicken at one of our tasting and could not stop talking about it until the wedding when he was pleasantly surprised, was just like he remembered, also unheard of.  It is very hard to cook the same dish for 140 people as you did for 5 people. The banana spring rolls with ice cream were a perfect addition to our wedding cake. The diversity of food Ravel has to offer is perplex, not the usual pastas and a dried piece of chicken. This was very important to my husband and I as we wanted to offer our guest an Asian Fusion dining experience, on a budget, making the menu very personal to what we enjoy. We tried 3 different steaks before settling on a chim churri people couldn’t get enough of even with the generous portions and after trying 3 different types of fish we chose the  halibut, both paired with coconut rice and bok choy. Lastly was the amazing French cut chicken perfectly paired with yam and onion fritters (I definitely suggest tasting, I was hesitant at first but the chef insisted and he was right on.) In addition Natassa allowed my stepson to customize the children’s menu to his liking for the few children that attended to include pork fried rice, chicken, French fries and sliders.

Most of our guest stood over night and did not want to leave when our wedding ended at 11pm, we partied well until 3am when it was open to the public for a great Memorial Day party and Natassa and her staff made sure we were well taken care of until the very end.

We did have a leak in our roof in the bathroom, the week leading up to the event it had rained almost 5 days straight. Someone came up right away and took care of it even offering to move us to another suite but we opted not to. Our guests were also satisfied with their rooms, especially the contemporary bathrooms. After the staff cleaned up for the wedding most of what I had to take home was brought down to my suite and some things Natassa kept in her office and it was a pleasure to come back 2 weeks later to have a drink on a gorgeous night and pick everything up.

Perfect wedding at the perfect venue!

I first came across penthouse 808 with a friend, we went to their Latin night in Wednesdays and had dinner and cocktails.  I loved the view and the experience, and thought  – what a great date spot & what a nice place for a wedding.  Just so happens A few months later I got engaged and started looking at wedding locations.  I talked to quite a few venues in the NYC area, some in Manhattan, some in LIC and surrounding areas.  I believe strongly in first impressions, and my first conversation with Natassa (the GM) was informative and very helpful and very friendly. My first meeting with her seemed too good to be true.  She talked about all of the possibilities and was open to just about anything I suggested or asked.  This was different from just about any place I had talked to at this point, as most are very structured, in that they don’t allow any elements outside of their cookie cutter format.  Once we realized what the competition was (or wasn’t) offering, we quickly decided to book with the Ravel, Penthouse 808.  We wanted a NYC, non-traditional, fun wedding… And this seemed to be the place for it.

I will also say I come from a family who is in the food business, so food quality and service is very important.  Once we had a tasting, I realized the food quality was up to par!  The menu was very diverse and interesting, and they even said that we can have the chef make additional dishes that aren’t on the menu, if we want.

Natassa and Annie (Natassa’s assistant) were nothing but overly helpful throughout the entire process, and were always super friendly.  They made recommendations for vendors, menu, layout…. Anything I needed. All with a smile. They honestly honored every request I made and seemed to have fun doing it, which is important.  As there is a big difference in how someone does their job when they enjoy it.  They are both amazing at their jobs! They helped me tremendously through the whole planning process, which meant more then they could know, considering my mom doesn’t live nearby, and I was pretty much planning on my own.  I really can’t say enough about them and the entire staff.

During the week surrounding the wedding, they even helped with suggestions for rehearsal dinner and other entertainment for our out-of-town guests, which was extremely helpful.

Our wedding was absolutely amazing!!!! Ceremony was perfect!! Everything looked great and it was everything we hoped for.  IT was magical!  The cocktail hour and reception was AMAZING!!!!  Natassa and Annie worked with the vendors and made sure everything went without a hitch, and it surely did! The food was just as great as it was at the tasting & the drinks were tasty and plentiful … And everyone was treated like gold.  Our wedding ended at 11pm, but a group of us stayed and partied until 2:30/3:00 am, and had the time of our life!  My guests have still continued to comment that it was the best wedding they have ever been to, they loved the setting and have also commented on the amazing staff.  It really made me feel good that not only did I have a great experience, but so did my guests!  It was the most amazing day of our lives… and we honestly couldn’t have done it without Natassa and Annie!

I will close by saying, it is the perfect place for a small- medium size wedding, if you want am interesting setting, great view, great party, great service, great food and drinks!

Out of towers love it … And we even impressed our fellow NYers!

Btw … They are also open for dinner and drinks on most nights/. Great date spot or place to party.

Hey guys, I thought I would offer some opinions about the place from a PHOTOGRAPHER’S point of view, which matters if you’re concerned about how your photographs will turn out.

I loved shooting here a few reasons.

I. pre-ceremony/ceremony/reception all within the same venue is a blessing for any photographer to deal with, but it also alleviates a lot of stress for the bride/groom and their guests. If there’s bad weather for instance, this makes evaporates the hassle of getting to and fro between the stages of the evening.

II. The scenery is indeed beautiful. Especially for springtime or summer weddings. I was here in May of 2012 and I have links to the blog of the Long Island City Wedding.

The ceremony space is tight, so it’s better if your wedding guest list is anywhere between 80 and 100 guests, but no more really.

It may be a logistical challenge for the bride to remain hidden before the guests start arriving, but in my experience here, the bride ducked back to her room with her party about a half hour before guests were supposed to arrive. And what happened actually was that the elevator was turned OFF so that guests could not come up to the penthouse until about 10 minutes before the wedding.. I wonder what it looked like downstairs before the wedding Surprised

All in all, the venue is best for a smaller wedding, the cocktail hour food was great, but the dinner, while good, might not be a highlight.

Take a look at more of the Penthouse 808 wedding photos, more than the prior link. There are a few other photographers with photos online, you can visit the space and have some idea of how you might like to utilize the space for your event.

As a photographer, I’d recommend the scene. I don’t know what the budget is for the venue, but Natassa, as others have pointed out, is easy to work with and she was very accommodating to my concerns from a photography perspective in discussions leading up to the May 2012 wedding.

Hope this contribution helps making a decision easier, and it’d be great if someone wanted me to shoot there again Laughing I have more ideas about using the space the next time.
