I went with one of my BM to try on my wedding dress last night after some alterations! It fit perfect and we both agreed it was beautiful.
My dress is really simple, and was on the sale rack and only cost me about $150.00 which I thought was fine since Im basically only wearing it 1 hour so I can change to a cute, shorter dress to dance for the reception so I can actually dance. Its not my dream dress, but I can’t really afford anything else since we splurged on the venue, but I feel beautiful in it.
So my BM and I are standing in front of the 3 way mirror with the seamstress, admiring her handy work, and this group of 3 ladies dress shopping stop by.
One proceeds to tell me I don’t really love it, because I would have a “etheral bridal glow” if I did. She tells me her daughter is getting married and spent $4k on the dress but it was worth it because she looked like a model and was beautiful. If it was “the” dress I would look as beautiful and happy as her said daughter.
Good for her daughter, but I don’t have that kind of money (and I model part time to help combat student loans…go figure)
The other two comment on how it doesn’t look very expensive.
What. the. heck.
This post really has no point, but I needed to rant. Who the crap says that? I would never comment on another bride’s dress if I knew its the one she wanted.
People are so rude.

Geesh! People are rude!
I’m sure you look amazing in it! What matters is what you think and how you feel. Screw everyone else.

People are ridiculous. I’m sorry they said those things to you. I’m sure your dress is amazing and you will look great. And you have TWO dresses, so boo hoo for them.

Honestly, I’ve seen some 4k dresses that are just hideous. My gown is under 1k and that was by choice, nothing to do with finances. I prefer my money to go towards something more permanent, like a home or my rings, etc.
Girl, you model part-time.. you’re probably hotter than her daughter in her 4k dress any day. It’s not the dress; it’s who’s wearing it! This woman should’ve shut her trap – she must’ve been drunk. People can’t really be THAT tasteless, can they?

My reply would have been “I’m sorry you don’t like my dress, but I don’t like your hoity-toity, holier than thou attitude.”

Ughhhh I hate stupid rude people and there are quite a few out there. Sorry you had to deal with such a moron! As long as you feel beautiful tune out everyone else! Not sure what it is about wedding planning that makes people chime in when their opinions weren’t even asked for. I’m sure you look beautiful…. Feel free to post your pics 🙂

I’m sorry you had to deal with that! There are some real jerks out there…
My very first time ever trying on gowns, I went to one store specifically because I knew they had the dress I had been loving online. My friend and I (both curvier girls, street size 16/18) were wandering around and choosing dresses that I liked and might want to try on. The OWNER of the store came up to us and basically implied that I was too fat to be trying on her samples, and I shouldn’t even bother looking at ones that weren’t my size off the rack. I’m sorry, but how the hell am I supposed to know if I want to order a dress, if I can’t try it on, regardless of whether the sample will fit properly! I was dumbfounded, and would never have considered purchasing from there after that.
Don’t let those rude women get to you, I’m sure you are beautiful in your dress!

WOW…I would have simply asked what the Wedding Dress Whisperer’s fee was for such sterling and sage advice..somewhere in the ballpark of $4k? Then I would have told her that you can throw money at things all you want to…it never makes them beautiful, because you can’t polish a turd….

It seems people can be quite rude when it comes to weddings and pregnancies.

Jeeze the nerve of some people. You should have asked her if she would like to contribute to your dess fund … you only need about $3900.00, you know since she was so free with her opinion she may be that free with her check book 😀
