It's COLD outside today. 21 degrees right now, but it was 8 this morning (windchill of 2). And yet these girls, these silly, silly girls, insist on wearing mini-skirts and boots, Without tights. And barely a coat. And then complaining on their phones that "it's coooooooold"... well, duh. I wore a ski jacket. And gloves. And jeans. and a tank top, long sleeve shirt, and zip up hoodie. And I still was cut to the bone when it was windy.
I simply do not understand it.
I think I saw the same girls in walmart just the other day!
They were probably 15 years old, had on shorts up to here, tiny hoodies, and of COURSE the snow boots. Can't go anywhere without the snow boots. You know, just in case it snows.
gotta be cute at all costs :) Actually, they probably didn't realize just how cold it actually was, or what that feels like.
I did it all the time in college. I'd go out at night in a tank top with no coat in the middle of winter in central Pennsylvania! It was too much of a hassle to wear a coat, and it was only a couple of blocks, at most a mile to where I was going. I'm sure people thought I was an idiot. I think we all sometimes pick style over comfort :)
Oh there seems to be a trend here among teenage girls to wear tiny little shorts, tights and Ugg boots. It makes NO sense...if you need tights and wool lined boots its not the season for shorts!
Yeah, there's still snow on the ground here too, but apparently it's trendy to wear snow boots in any season, no matter what the weather is like. Personally, I think that trend is ridiculous, but even worse is the short shorts in January.
HAHAHA KM @ your multiple layers. I routinely have on a camisole, a sweater, a zip up hoodie and a coat. I'm layered like an onion at all times ... especially now with the Arctic wind aaaagh!!
lol. I was driving to work this morning and saw some girl at a bus stop wearing a short sleeve shirt. I, in my car with the heat at 74 and my seat warmers on, had my down jacket, scarf and mittens. I felt colder just looking at her! News flash: Blue lips, chattering teeth, frostbitten appendages and pneumonia are not cute!
Some girls like to show skin no matter what the temperature. Take comfort in the fact that you are warm and not so insecure that you feel the need to wear a miniskirt sans tights for attention when it's 8 degrees outside. I always see those girls - especially out on the town in NYC in the dead of winter - and think to myself that social darwinism dictates that they should all get hypothermia.
My child left the house this morning looking like the abominable (sp?) snowman...LOL. She has learned the art of layering from mama. She even broke out her flannels to wear underneath her school uniform....LOL! She has to stand out in this cold in the morning to catch the bus so she makes SURE she wraps up.
..not that she owns a "tiny pair of shorts" anyway...not even for summer.
Oh people like that are crazy! If it's cold wear winter clothes! There are winter clothes are are cute, yeah your legs aren't showing but you can still look cute!
I cant not do cold weather at all. One of my least favorite things is being cold. I bundle up and I live in CA. Whenever Im anywhere near the snow I put soooo many layers on. Last time I went to Colorado I had on 3 pairs of socks! Im all for looking cute, but Im not getting sick and cold trying!
When I was in my 20's ( like eeeearly 20's) we would go out at night in our little tube tops and pleather pants a-la slave 4 u britney (it was the year 2000! holla!) in zero degree weather because we didn't want to hold our jackets. WTF? Why? Why did I do that?
@sparkle I see people ALL THE TIME down here dressed like that. It,of course, doesnt get as cold down here as it does up there but still......
Hello they make winter clothes for WINTER and summer clothes for SUMMER!!!
What really bugs me though is when i see grownups dressed nice and warm and their kids dressed like it's freaking summer!!!!
Oh lawd when I was in my late teens and 20's and going out all of the time, I was barely dressed and didn't even notice the cold. Now that I'm, uh... let's just say OLDER (and not as firm), I cover the heck up. And trust me, I FEEL the cold now!
@ MzThrowBac - I saw someone like that just the other day at the gas station.
FREEZING outside. This little girl was wearing capris & flip flops and her mom was in a sweater, long pants & snow boots. It really made me mad. I don't care if the kid throws a fit. Shove them in a coat anyways. It's ignorant.
I used to see this constantly on campus. I get trying not to hold your coat in the club or bar, but on campus? You've got 15 lbs of books and a purse big enough to carry a 12 month old--you couldn't put on a coat? I don't care how much you dress for it, it isn't spring yet. The funny thing is, by the time it did get warm enough for what these girls wore in winter, they'd moved on to something even skimpier.
omg I do not get it. When i was in college I always wore the UGLIEST boots (because they were slip resistant, water resistant, and were meant for hiking) so i didn't eat it across campus, along with my long john thermals, saggy jeans, and layers and layers of "not cute" clothes. Unless you count my scarf as cute. Then of course, I was cute.
Exposure to cold, hellooo! Only takes a few minutes!
To be devils' advocate, i wear a dress, tights, and boots a lot in really cold weather, but only when I need to "dress nice" because it's warmer than dress pants! Hence why i'm wearing jeans to work today....with furry boots....a turtleneck....a polo.....a jacket....a down jacket....ear muffs....gloves....and light colored sunglasses to keep the sting out of my eye
The other day when it was like 10 below zero here, I saw someone wearing shorts! Shorts people? In January in Minnesota? CRAAAAZY! Especially when I'm dressed like an eskimo wearing my knee lenghth all down NorthFace!
LOL@Flamingred. Is that b/c you knew you'd put your "beer jacket" on at the club?
=]
MY personal fave is watching the girls in mini skirts and leggins walk around in FLIP FLOPS while it is snowing. Never gets old.
Guess these girls are more focused on being a hoochi-mama than being warm! Psh, whatevs!
Oh I still wear skirts all the time! I just wear really, really thick wool tights! Or, if I have to be at work at 7, I wear sweatpants UNDER my skirt then take them off inside. There's no one around at 7 AM to see me looking stupid other than my coworkers, and they look stupid themselves, lol.
These girls aren't out clubbing, they're out running errands at 3 in the afternoon! Target, Michael's, Barnes and Noble, Kohl's...we're in the middle of winter. In KY. Granted, our weather is a little unpredictable. But there's this AMAZING thing called the weather channel that tells you when it's 8 degrees with a windchill of 2!
LOL, my favorite thing in the world EVER!!!! is when girls in Las Vegas where we have temperatures above 95 most of the summer wear mini skirts with tank tops and UGGS...really??? UGGS in the summer??? wtf, your feet must smell bad.
@vista: JINX! You owe me a coke!
You see this here in WI all the time. It was -10 degrees yesterday, but today its 20 degrees? Heat wave! Time to break out the short shorts and mini skirts! No kidding. I learned long ago that I'd rather look like the stay Puff Marshmallow man in winter then start turning funny shades like blue, purple, or black. I am also oddly attached (ahaha!) to my toes and fingers, so I like to keep them warm. But here in WI, many people like to joke that we don't start considering it cold until its at least -15 below. When spring rolls around and the sun emerges from its 4-7 months of hiding, people will break out bikinis for 40 and 50 degree weather here! I may have grown up with the crazy people, but I am not one of them!
YES! I see so many people doing this! Its hovering around 0F here, not factoring in wind chill. I don't care how unfashionable I look, which I'm often looking like there's a doom's day ice storm coming my way...its flippin cold.
LOL @ Eska-ho. I've never heard that one before. I may or may not try to steal credit for that...
After living in MN for a decade, I have gotten over my phobia of wrecking my hair by wearing a hat. The worst thing that will happen is I flip my head over after taking off the hat, tousle my hair, and rock a wild-curly-girl look. But my fiance teases me all the time for wearing a hat. And I'm always like, "Whatever - just don't be complaining to me about how cold you are." And then, 10 minutes later, he's staring at me enviously as his lips turn blue.
Ridiculous. I've reached an age where warmth is so much more important than "style".
That drives me NUTS. I just want to throw pants and gloves at them. :p
