Can you make them? i cant say enough how much cheaper and better it is if you can. heres mine in the making
so far all i have got is the fabric.....To make them from scratch its costing me less than £50 each, when i was quoted £200 each. i cut the cost by a quarter.

I am making 4 of these dresses

I had this same problem, and the conclusion i came to was no, you can't buy off the rack (jcrew, ann taylor) because they simply don't carry that color. My biggest problem was that i didn't want chiffon, but once i caved and went with chiffon, i found that bill levkoff had the perfect eggplant color (called plum). the girls LOVED them and everyone said the color was great. they have a store locator on their website.
good luck!
@esqbee: Thank you!! I'll have to check that out. My only hesitation with buying from a place that I can't physically see them is that I wouldn't be able to accurately tell what the color was, and it measurements/sizes may be a hassel. I think I will ask them to all get measured to try to avoid that problem.
@Vintage-me: I wish I could make them!! I can't sew so much as a button back onto a pair of pants. The dresses you're making are lovely though...would love to see the finished product!

Dessy has several colors you may like. Check their store locator to see who carries them local to you.
Deep, purple is really hard to find and to match as there are so many shades. I have a concord grape colored dress to wear to a wedding this Saturday, and I've gone crazy for over a month trying to get shoes and a wrap/pashmina that even comes close.
I had the same problem and found "aubergine" in Jordan Fashions. The dresses and color were amazing. I'd stay away from dept. store dresses. Really overpriced and colors tend to be safe or basic. I got these on frenchnovelty.com. Retail was $179 and we paid $120 with a code. They did take 2.5 months but you could rush if you need.

no prob - hope it helps! my girls are all over the country so i had them all get measured at a tailor and send me their info for ordering. i went to a few places that carried them and saw the color in person. also, anywhere that sells the dresses can order swatches for you (which was very helpful not only in confirming dress color, but also for ordering flowers and groomsmen details)
I love the convertable dresses from Esty. They are economical (usually $99-$120)and flatering to so many body types. And each of the vendors that I've seen sell swatches.
check out alfred angelo but go to the store online is not the true color AT ALL! we just orders ours this weekend!
This drove/is driving me nuts too -- and good luck finding the right shade of purple in paper, beads, ribbon, etc. Actually, as a fellow eggplant purple bride...I will totally look forward to seeing what eggplant stuff you find! :-)
I know you're most interested in off-the-rack dresses, but I ultimately found that Alfred Angelo's eggplant color was about as close as I was going to get -- plus my bridesmaids were unanimous on the dress below. The color in the photo looks way lighter than it is in real life, so I would recommend dropping by some shops and getting swatches. Also, AA just added a bunch of new purples -- you might find one there to suit you if this eggplant isn't quite what you're looking for.

My girls wore this Betsy and Adam dress... they bought it at Belk (its now on sale for $65 but they only have size 8) but it was also available at Macy's and Dillards (still sells it).
I'd suggest checking department stores.
I don't think the color ("plum") was as bright as it appears in this photo... it wasn't royal at all.
ETA:
I found matching ribbon at Michael and Men's Warehouse had a matching vest color, also called "plum".
Other places I looked for dresses that you might want to try:
The Limited

BCBG
Modcloth
I really don't have much advice... but I just wanted to chime in and say how frustrated I am with this, too!!
Someone had mentioned before about Bill Levkoff- and I totally afgree- it's the perfect shade. Unfortunately they don't have the style I want!
I'm going with David's Bridal more for the ease/cost than anything else, since I have bridesmaids in different states- and because this dress has gotten approval from my super picky FSIL. haha. F14010 is a long chiffon, one-shouldered dress in either Lapis (it's on the darker side... but I'd rather it be darker than lighter) or Plum (which I haven't seen in person yet... I'm getting there).

@September29: Yeah, DB's Lapis is a nice shade. Glad you found dresses there that worked for you!
Hi! I called my wedding off last December and had 6 bridesmaids who still have their bridesmaids dresses in eggplant. Here is a picture of the dress:
They are in eggplant, which looks much darker in person than what the picture shows, but I don't have any pictures of my bridesmaids in them since the wedding didn't happen. If you're interested in more of the details, here's the link to a post I wrote trying to sell them.

Check out Dessy dresses... they have really gorgeous shades of purple. A couple years ago I was in a wedding and wore an eggplant Dessy dress, it was really pretty!

I am in love with Amsale's chiffon bridesmaids dresses in Eggplant. They come in a variety of styles! I'm not sure how helpful this is to you though, as I have no idea how expensive they are, or where to find them in a store.

Have you looked at J Crew recently? They very recently added "Dark eggplant" to their dresses which made me SO excited because it's the exact color I was looking for too... I was looking at the silk chiffon dresses, not sure which fabric you were hoping for.

I have 6 BMs and part of my color pallette is a gorgeous, deep, eggplant purple. I can't find ANY dresses that match that shade! They are all too light, or too royal purple-y, or just not right. I want my bridesmaids to choose their own dresses so they can pick a style and a fit that makes them comfortable, so I was really hoping some place like J. Crew would work. The closest thing they have is a 'Spiced Wine' color which is just too burgundy looking.
My question: is there a J. Crew equivalent that has an array of bridesmaids dress available for purchase with a choice of colors? This seems like an obvious question, because--yes--many places like that exist. But I'm hoping to find an actual store (like J. Crew, or Ann Taylor, or Anthropologie) that we can go into and see the dresses in person and they can try them on. I'm at a loss!!
