I have chronic dermatitis myself, and I’m so paranoid about what I put on my face. My suggestion is to be really careful with what you come into contact with and what products you use on your face. I’ve been using Aveeno for years and I swear by that stuff. I also don’t wear foundation or blush or anything like that.

When my skin flares up, I use a steroid cream, but the internet suggests you don’t use that kind of stuff for peri oral dermatits.

I used to use a steroid cream around my mouth, but the rebound reaction was worse than the original problem! The absolute best thing has been a different medicated cream called Protopic. There are some scary sounding side effects, but no one I know who uses it has had them. It’s licensed for use on the face, even the eyelids – I would highly recommend it for the mouth!

Cortisone creams relieve the inflammation but do not solve the problem.. …  plus they can cause bad sides effects if used for an extended period of time. Protopic worked best for me. To maintain clear skin i avoid my triggers : stress, extreme temperatures and harsh soaps. So i use “avene” products. Aveno and anything that does not have harsh chemicals. Here in canada those products have a stamp or sticker saying they are endorsed by did some dermatological society.  Try not to rub it too much. Fish oil supplements help me as well if you want to go the holistic route. Good luck!
