You should check with your doctor depending on what pill you are taking. But generally this works, I did it with Yaz. It won't increase your pregnancy risk, you can just take the first pack, skip placebos, start second pack.
If you're on a low-dose pill it should be fine. I've done it several times, and it has never messed with my schedule- I completely skipped the period that I didn't want, and I got my period just like normal on my next pack. Of course, if you're worried about it, talk with your doctor.
You should check with your doctor. If you are on a monophasic pill like Yaz, you shouldn't have any problems but a pull like Ortho-Tricyclin Lo might have problems because there are differen levels of hormones. I would check with your doctor about it right away since your wedding is coming up!
All you would do is take you 21 active pills from the first pack and then go straight to the active pills in the next pack. Don't take an extra week off from the pills later, just continue to follow the pill packs.
I do it all the time, it's no problem at all. Agreed though, talk to your doctor about it. My doctor said I could safely do it for 3 months back to back if I wanted to. I don't find it has any affect on my next period. Once or twice I've gotten a bit of spotting, but it's been light and rare. I'm on Synphasic.
I did that for 5 years (with the doc's ok) without incident. Monophasic generic BC pills then. At that point they started marketing pills like seaonale and seasonique (which I believe is the lo dose version of seaonale), which just take the guess work out of it for you. I've been on the generic version of seasonale for 3 years, and again, nary an incident!
My doctor actually sat down and calculated with me and then, realizing that I would have my period over my honeymoon said to skip the placebos for that month. I haven't tried it before (fairly new to the pill), but I don't think it's a problem with most pills as long as you don't do it all the time. I'm on Reclipsen, fwiw.
I'm on Junel and I did skipped my period when I went to try on my wedding dress and it was no big deal. I'm also scheduled to get my period on the honeymoon and plan on skipping my period then also. It can't hurt to check with your doctor, but you should be fine :)
Thanks everyone, that certainly makes me feel a bit better about it - however, I am taking Ortho-Tricyclin Lo, which MissAsB says might be a problem? Has anyone had experience doing this with Ortho-Tricyclin Lo.
Also, I understand that speaking with a doctor would be the best move, but I am in-between doctors and have insurance that wouldn't cover a visit - I'd have to pay the hundred bucks or whatnot to go in and ask. I got the pills from planned parenthood - would it make sense to go in there and ask?
Thanks again. In case anyone else was wondering, I just found an article - http://thewelltimedperiod.blogspot.com/2005/01/skip-period-regimens.html - that basically says that with the pills with varying dosages (like Ortho-tricyclin Lo) you can take the THIRD WEEK of pills (the dark blue - highest dosage) from a new pack in order to delay your period by a week. It won't work to start a new pack from the beginning because it's a much lower dosage than you just came off of, so there still might be some withdrawal bleeding.
I was on the same, when it came to Placebo week I just started my new pack and had NO PROBLEMS with it at all!! None- zippo. Call your docs office and ask to have a return call- leave a message with the nurse- they get these calls ALL the time!
i used to be on Ortho-Lo and had no problem going from the last active pill to a new pack and skipping my period. never had any issues. sometimes my next period after a skipped on would be longer/heavier but it was never really an issue.
now i'm on something else, but also plan to skip so that it won't come while on my honeymoon.
I actually just did that. My doc said that since I'm on a pill with 21 days that I need to take and then the 7 sugar pills, I can skip the sugar pills and start my next pack. I just did it, and it worked GREAT - my period's already on track with the new pills. Best part is that I have figured it out so I won't have my period the week before, of, or after the wedding, so I should get it when we get back from our honeymoon.

Hey ladies, it's come to my attention that if I stick to my birth control schedule (I'm on the 21 day pill with 7 placebo pills), I will be on my period for over half of our honeymoon. Thankfully it won't start until after the wedding, but it would really be nice to not be on my period for the honeymoon if you know what I mean...
Anyway, I've heard of people going ahead and starting the next series of pills right after the 21 are up instead of taking the 7 placebos in order to skip their period. Is this safe? Will it increase the pregnancy risk in any way? Will it actually postpone/skip my period?
Also, if I do that, do I have to do anything later to make up for the missed days or will it be okay to then just continue with my pills and just be a week off from when I started?
Any advice/experience will help. Thanks!
