So, since I’ve been on the pill my periods have been so regular. Exactly every 28 days it comes, lasts a few days, same every month. Which is awesome. It was horrible before the pill. Well, I looked at my calendar and guess what? In three 28 days time it will be my wedding day!! Noo! So I am absolutely sure the first day of my period will be the day of my wedding and go into the beginning of my honeymoon. Such bad timing! I’ve heard of women altering their period using the pill. Has anyone done that? Does anyone have any advice? Any bees been there before? I don’t want my period on my wedding day!

Yes, you can manipulate it sometimes. I’m trying to alter mine right now because according to my period tracker, I will be on my period on my wedding day in June. What I am doing is starting a new pack 1 day early. So for example I am starting a new pack on the day of my last inactive pill rather than the day after the last inactive pill. Or you can even try sooner than 1 day. According to my period tracker this will move my period up by one week in June. I’ve tried it for the past couple months and somehow it reverted back… it’s being stubborn! But I haven’t tried too hard to manipulate it yet since it’s still 6 1/2 months away.
You can also try what @mamadingdong said. The only problem with that is sometimes you can get breakthrough bleeding if you miss your period by skipping the inactive pills and starting a new pack right away.

@BriansBride: I agree with PP. I am on seasonique so I only get a period every third month- you may spot when you first try this so I would run your next two packs together and then the two after that so youve done it once and your body has adjusted. Its perfectly safe and healthy

@mamadingdong: I had heard of this, but was worried about break through bleeding or being super PMSy. Once I tried that shot and I was horrible crazy for three months, never again! Have you tried the skipping inactive week thing? How did it work?
@ltj14: I’m glad you have more time! You can do it slowly, although it sounds like it’s still being difficult!!

As long as its only altered slightly, by 3-4 days you shouldn’t have breakthrough bleeding. An alternate option that may be less risk on your wedding day is to take the inactive pills a week sooner to give you time to get your period out of the way before the wedding. Then you can’t have break through theoretically. I also am on seasonique, 4 periods a year but I alter mine by a week or so for vacation etc with no issues.

@BriansBride: I skipped it once for a vacation and it was fine. A friend of mine used to do it ALL THE TIME. I didn’t have any cramps, PMSy or anything else, neither did my friend.

@BriansBride: I did this for a super important show I had. Um . Think white swimsuits in front of thousands of people.
I knew I was going to get my period and went to my gyno. He gave me a shot to give myself (that part was no fun) but unless you will have a destination wedding, you can make an appointment with your gyno and have him take care of it. I would strongly advise not to improvise yourself with the pill of it is really important to you that you don’t get your period on that date. Basically he tells you when your hormone levels start to drop and then you get the shot and boost them back up so no period.
It will take a bit of time to get you back on a good cycle but at least for me, it was well worth it!

I have a nuvaring and was due to start my period the day after our wedding, just before our honeymoon. I asked the Doc if I could just out a new one in straight away and she said yes, from time to time it’s ok, as long as you don’t do it every month. I guess it’s the same with the pill.

Try skipping the sugar pills and starting a pack right away (on your current pack) if it works for you then do it again on your cycle. You should be fine.

You can try skipping the inactive pills and going right into the next pack… but I will warn you that you may get heavy spotting that lasts a lot longer, like 2 weeks or more. That’s what happened to me and I found it to be a lot more annoying that just having my full-on period for a few days.

I had my period on my wedding day and it really wasn’t too bad. Ok, so it was after 4 days of flow so it was fairly sporadic AND my dress style and material meant that I could have probably worn 10 pairs of knickers underneath my dress and no one would have known!
I think it depends on your dress style, material etc. and what sort of pill you are on. I am on the POP which means I have no break, meaning I never know when my period is coming. If you are on the combined pill where you get either sugar pills or a pill free week, then I would just take two lots of normal back to back.

I skipped mine for my wedding! Just skip the inactive pills/days off and go straight onto the new pack. I spotted a bit for about a week, but it was far better than having my period during that time.
