Are you sure it’s a period and not implantation bleeding?  IB can often be mistaken for a light period.

@discokitty:  Hopefully it’s IB (that is of course if you do want a baby lol) If it stops then it very well might be 🙂

What color is the blood and how heavy is it?

I’d test anyways. Some women can have bleeding that seems very period like.  There are even women who spot regularly throughout their healthy pregnancies. Wouldn’t hurt to test just for peace of mind. If it is negative and you get another period again in a couple weeks maybe call your doctor. If your period doesn’t come in two weeks, test again. I hope you get your BFP!

Are you just coming off of birth control?  It could just be your body regulating if that’s the case… Otherwise, it sounds like it’s heavy enough that it’s probably not implantation or ovulation bleeding… I say keep tracking and see what happens… If you don’t get a period in a few weeks I would test.

If its mucous-y, could it be egg white cervical mucous with a little bit of blood tinting it to look like more? I’d BD now just in case!
