I would never...I don't like the idea of not being able to change something if I want to. For instance, I don't always wear eyeliner or lipstick/lip liner. I would hate to ALWAYS look like I'm wearing those things--to me, it makes my look less versatile. The thought of tattooing my face also gives me the chills.
Only permanent thing I would enjoy is getting eyesbrow tattooed on. Can't stand the plucking/waxing anymore. Haha. No, but seriously, I think I like my natural look the best.
I'm the bee with the permanent eye makeup. I would definetely reccommend it. Its a really thin line on my eyelid, and because my lashes are already full its not as obvious as one would think. At first I was a bit wry of getting it done, because it is permanent but I don't regret it all.
I used to wear eye make-up every day and I considered getting permanent eye liner. I am glad that I did not, because now I don't wear make-up at all, and I would have been "stuck" with any permanent make-up.
I look at permanent make-up the same way I look at tatoos (i have 3 tats)....if I am going to get it, and it will be visiible....will I still want it in 10...15....20 years?? (Consequently, my 1 tat is on my back and the other two tats are on my feet - both easy to hide if needed/wanted!)
@mrscheetos: Hope you don't mind me starting a thread based on your comment! I was just intrigued but didn't want to thread-jack! :)
Hmm I would consider eyeliner. I have pale eyelashes and wear mascara 24/7 anyways. I'd love some permanent foundation.... oh wait maybe I just need microdermabrasian or brown spot removal instead.
my lips are super pale and I hate re-applying lipstick all day. I spent litreally weeks researching whether I could get permanent lip color that is actually natural looking -- something that makes me look like I was born with rosy lips.
the anser is: not really. there is something abou that pigment that is opaque so even if I chose a really perfect shade of rose, it would still look like lipstick sitting on top of my lips.
maybe one day they'll invent something good :(
I would consider it, but I'm nervous about it. I have tattoos but I feel it's a bit different. I feel that if you tattoo your leg and the artist screws up you can cover it up with a different tattoo, if they screw up your face, well, you're screwed.
I would love to get my eyeliner tattoed.. maybe a Christmas gift to myself :)
My former roommate had permanent eyeliner. It was ok, but looked a bit faded up close - one of the reasons I would never get it.
I have tattooed eyeliner.... I wouldn't say I love it though. I definitely like it, but it's not really love. It hurt quite a bit because I had it done by a student (she was fully supervised, and I am cheap).
If anything, I wish it were more obvious. My lower line is just tiny little dots between the lashes to make my eyeline a bit more defined. The top line extends for about 2/3 the way along my lid.
It fades a lot in the first couple of weeks, but I'll try to attach the photo I took the night I had it done (using my phone, so might sketch out...)
@so_said_ellie: have you considered a 'retouch' to make it darker? I had mine done overseas, it was pretty light when she intitally did it, but she does a retouch on all of her clients, which I did about a month later. I had it done about two years ago and it didnt fade at all.
This is what mine looks like (the blue on the bottom isnt tattooed, I had that on already).
yikes, sorry the pic is so big.
Not a fan. I know a handful of women who had it done for convenience and they regret it. They also have to add makeup daily even after having the procedure done.
Also, I don't like anyone going near my eyes with anything sharp so that would never be an option for me.
My MIL has a license to do permanent makeup. And most all of her customers are pleased, but like any tattoo it does kind of fade.
Most people who do it are really into their makeup, and this saves them the trouble or its part of their identity etc.
I know someone with the eyebrows. My worry is that when we are older and the skin starts to sag and wrinkle, the eyebrows won't be in the same place anymore. This freaks me out big time! I don't think I would ever get it.
The skin on your face does not sag to the point where the eyebrows move to where they shouldn't be. Take a look at any elderly woman and you will see they look nearly the same as when they were younger.
I read that in england, you can get semi-permanent eyebrows done that fade in about a year. I would love to try that! does anyone know if that can be done in the US?
(edit) also: does anyone know if you have to shave your eyebrows first? I want this done, but I totally do not want to shave, it would look so bad for like 6 weeks!
@Ember78: No...that came out wrong lol. I guess I just mean when it wrinkles...it might look odd. Kind of like tattoos on old people - they just look a bit distorted somehow.
I soooo want my eyeliner tattooed on... oh to think of the money I'd save! I wear eyeliner everyday unless I'm going to a rave because I sweat it off =( hey!!! That's another great reason for me to get it!! I thought about this 7 years ago but never ended up getting it, wish I would have! I think I might...
My aunt has permanent eyeliner, and I always loved it on her. And she got green! You'd like it'd be a little too out there for everyday wear, but it looks amazing and so versatile. I don't know if I'd ever get it, but like others, I'm often a little too lazy to wear makeup all the time (sadly, I cherish sleep more than getting totally ready a lot of mornings), so it would be very convenient.
@mrscheetos: Do you mind if I ask about the procedure? Did it hurt at all? I'm really curious now!
question for bees who have it done (things to know before I get it done):
Was it hard to stay still... keep your eye from fluttering?
How bad did it hurt compared to any other tats you have? My ankle killed and the tattoo on my spine was cake all my other other tattoos hurt but were bearable so just wondering where it ranks in pain levels?
I am thinking about getting permanent eyeliner. I feel I look much better and more awake in general with it, but my skin doesn't mesh well with most make ups and I just end up looking smudged after half an hour.
@mrscheetos: yeah I would have it redone, but I just don't have the cash at the moment! I don't know what the price is like in the US, but in Australia, the cost for upper and lower liner is about $500 AUD.
These are from the night I had the tattooing done, the lines have faded a bit since.
I wouldn't say it hurt, so much as was really, really uncomfortable. I suspect that much of my experience was to do with the fact that I had a student do the bulk of my tattoo. When the supervisor did some sample bits, her technique was very good and it didn't hurt so much. Also, she could do the same thing in one pass that the student did in 3 or 4 passes with the tattoo gun.
My eyelid fluttering was much worse with the lower rim, because for that you have to have your eye open. The tattooist holds it open, but again, the student's technique wasn't so good because she was a bit apprehensive. When the teacher did it, she held the skin really taut, and so it was more comfortable. When they do the upper lid, you have your eye closed, so it's not so bad (it hurt more though, because that's when they used the real needle, as opposed to the little dotty one they used on my lower lash line).
They use a local anesthetic cream, so everything is a little numb. I would imagine (and have heard) that the lip line is much more painful than eyes!
@so_said_ellie: wow $500?! I paid $75 from my upper lid, but this was in Lebanon not the US. I have been quoted 150 here though.
@parasol: It hurt, yes, but it wasnt excruticiating like one would imagine. Your eyelid is first numbed, and the initial pain is a bit uncomfortable, a burning needle pain but you get used to it. The whole thing took about 20 minutes anyways. Your lids will stay tender and swollen for about a week after.
@HappilyEverAfter54: The tattoo artist held my eyelid down to keep it from fluttering, and it was numbed anyways. I was worried about my eyelids flying open and being blinded, but was presently surprised that they stayed shut the whole time with little to no effort from me lol
I would never get it done, but mainly because there's an older woman in my office who had it done a while ago.
As she aged and got wrinkles the eyeliner moved. So her lower liner is now noticeably below the eyelash line.
Not sure if it was just poorly done or if that's normal, but it's not worth the risk to me.
@so_said_ellie: @mrscheetos: Both of your pics look awesome! I would love to wake up every morning and not have to spend five minutes drawing on my eyeliner.
I have a coworker who did it and it looks great! She got her eyeliner AND lipstick tattoed. However, she is one of those people who wear a lot of makeup all the time, so it worked for her. I just am afraid it'd hurt too badly and would be nervous about it being so close to my eye! When I have had people do my makeup in the past (not often, but still) I found it hard to keep still, I can't imagine trying to keep still with a needle pointing in my eye!

So in the make-up/no make-up thread one of the Bees commented about how she was kind of cheating in her "no make-up" picture because she had permanent eyeliner.
I've never known anyone personally who has some sort of permanent make-up but the idea is really intriguing. I don't wear much make-up normally, not because I don't like the way I look with it but because I am too lazy to spend the time to do it. It would be really nice to roll out of bed looking already put together.
Do any Bees have experience (good or bad) with permanent make-up? If you don't have it, would you consider getting it? Why or why not?
