I have to get an indoor candle permit for the Ebell Club of Los Angeles (mid-Wilshire area, 90005). I believe all candle permits go through the L.A.F.D. I was told it was free to obtain the permit. The request for the special permit must be made in person, and you must bring the type of candles, holding device, and floral arrangement to the LAFD Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Contact the LAFD Public Safety at 213-978-3640.  They’ll fax you the permit details.

Tip: The flame from the candle must be maintained at a minimum of 2" below the opening of the ‘hurricane’ at all times … make sure your candles aren’t too tall so that the flame doesn’t go beyond the top of the glass.

Good Luck!

Hi Vee,

I’m not sure if they require the ‘actual’ arrangement (flowers). They just want to be sure the candles are a certain distance away from your floral arrangement (if any). I would call the LAFD to get further details. They will fax you all the details!
