A little back-story…. An elderly woman called at work saying that her son Mr. Claudius Smith would drop something by… I did except a middle-aged weird looking guy by that name. Imagine my surprise when a very good looking 20 something Nicholas Hoult look-a-like (but even more handsome!) rang our doorbell! I really did not expect that!
When was the last time you were really surprised to meet a person that did not match their name (or what you expected a person with that name to look like)? Care to share?

Apparently I’m one of those people who don’t match their name! My name is Shona (rhymes with Mona). It’s the feminine of Shawn, which is Gaelic for John. My Mother is from Scotland. BUT The Shona are also the largest ethnic population in Mozambique. They speak the Shona language. My peeps! lol
I’ve had people say they expected me to be of African or Indian background, but I’m white with blond hair and brown eyes. I guess I could be of Dutch-African background?
One guy at my work, who had immigrated from Nigeria, told me he spent weeks “trying to figure out who the white girl sitting at Shona’s desk was. And where was Shona?” We both had a good laugh because I had spent weeks trying to figure out who “Mbimangil” was. He went by his “English” name, “Michel.”

@alaha: I don’t think I can remember this happenning to me, but I do have a quick story along the same lines.
My FI’s name is Evan…we were meeting up with one of my friends for some reason and there were a few of her friends that had not met Evan yet. Afterwards, my friend mentioned to me that one of the new people we met commented that Evan was just not the same as he had pictured…because he’s Asian. He thought an Asian person with the name Evan was strange. I persoanlly thought that was weird of him to say that but whatever haha.

My parents named me a name that is typically (like 99.9%) a male name. No one is ever expecting a woman to walk in.
My SIL has a very fancy, feminine name. But she’s very athletic, laid back and not fancy like her name makes her sound.

I have a friend named Angel. I have thought many times how the name is just so wierd for her- not that she is bad or anything- it just really doesn’t fit.

I’ve never really met anyone who doesn’t match their name, but I do know of someone (an aquaintance) who kind of switched up her name to suit her personality better. She went from Nicole to Nikkyta.
Growing up I never thought my name suited me… I hated it, and even tried writing different names on my work in kindergarten, lol. That being said, when I look at myself now, I realize my name suits me (much better than Christine, which my Dad was hoping for). LOL!
Also, when my DD was born, there was an entirely different name I wanted for her (much to DH’s dismay). We chose something else in the long-run, which I didn’t think suited her at-the-time, but now she’s grown into it. She totally suits her name.
