I am stealing this idea and wanted to repost, since it hasn;t been brought up in about 2 months. How do you ladies feel about how you look in your dress versus what you saw in the magazines or online? Did it measure up or do you look way better?
Here are mine. What do you think?
SO much prettier on you! I LOVED this post the first time, glad you restarted it! The model looks completely sickly in the dress, you look stunning!
Here is mine.... me first, then the model
Thanks @ Brasty,,,,you look so much better in your dress. You make it come alive!1
I love this thread! You girls both look way better than the models! I think I look way better than the model too. :p
Brooklyn, that dress is lovely and you add nice curves to it!! Work it!!
Thanks, Cre :)
Brooklyn-she looks like a little girl playing dress up, while you ROCK the he&& out of it!
Hey BrooklynBride, I lalways love seeing your pic in your beautiful Lazaro, and how you have such a happy glow!
Since my dress FINALLY has a pic on the website, I'll play again. I think the model's pic is better than mine but her backdrop is prettier so not a fair competition
IMO alot of wedding gown models look lifeless in the dress, maybe it is because they don't have the blush of a bride. I love seeing these posts :)
Princess Diva, better on you. This is a perfect example of what another thread discussed - why AREN'T there more African American models in the wedding dress industry? I think the white dresses look so much better with contrast to the skin tone. The lighting in your picture really shows that lovely color differential. Beautiful.
Alfred Angelo 2034
It's not the greatest pic as I was taking it myself, but you get the idea :)
@lovebug: that's one of my fave AA dresses! are you going to wear it with a sash? i love it!!
Yea, I wouldn't have even taken a second look at it if I had seen the online pic...I think it looks terrible on the "model" because she has no curves! I'm thinking of doing the slim white sash with the 2 little roses on it... I don't really want color on my dress...my bouquet is really colorful...
Meliss, I say that you totally outshine the model in that dress.....background or not!
I totally agree with you Brew...maybe they should let real brides model the dresses :)
Chapel...WHAT, I'm not African American.........j/k LOL Thanks so much for the compliment ;)
Lovebug, that is a baaaaaaaaad dress!
@Meliss
Whenever I see you in that dress I always think you look just so amazing in it! The model doesnt even compare to you! Its like that dress was made for you!
Thanks @Osakagrl, you're so sweet! It always feels good to hear that. At the wedding I'll try to pose with some vines and lavender flowers in the background to get the "model" effect :)
@PrncssDva - Please tell me you mean "bbaaaad" in a good way! =)
I love these posts, all of you ladies are GORGEOUS:) Looking at these photos are making me so excited and they have my creative juices flowing....thanks for sharing your experiences.
@lovebug: um i can vouch for her since we're from the same place and say that bad definitely means great! lol!!!
@crebre80 - PHEW! Thanks! I hoped so!!! I don't wanna be lookin' bad on my wedding day! :) ...unless it's baaaddd a$$ ;)
Wow, all of you outshine the models in every way! Lovebug, I love that dress and it would have been the one if I hadnt found one I liked a little better, good choice!
Yay!! I love these threads! It's so nice to see everyone looking so happy!! I hate when the dress ads have the models in those sulky poses or with their shoulders all thrown forward so they look even more sickly skinny.
@brooklyn, you definitely win the contest! That dress belongs on someone with curves! Doesn't it look like it is going to slide off the model?
@meliss, yeah, the model's actual picture looks better, but you look better in the dress! And just think about how much better you are going to look when you have a pro. photog to take your picture!
I don't know who makes my dress, but I'll show off anyway! (I look really stiff in the picture, but that's because I was standing there for like 5 minutes while my mom tried to figure out my camera)
I always enjoy seeing real brides in the dresses vs. models. It is amazing to me how different dresses look when they are not on size 0 models. In fact, they usually look much better. You all look beautiful in your dresses!
Yay! I've always wanted to comment on this thread! My dress was the Maggie Sottero Aurelie in ivory. I had the neckline altered to a sweetheart. First the model, then me (and excuse the watermark on the photo- I haven't recieved my CD of all the images yet!)
Ok I'll play! I was a little hesistant to put a pic of me in the dress on here, but since it's a crappy cell phone pic you can't really tell :)
OttawaBride, is your dress a Jai?! I haven't seen anyone else around with a Jai dress! It took me a loooong time to find a model pic of my dress, they don't have it on the website!
@orangie - sort of! it's elegance bridals which is apparently a sister or child or something company of jai :) your dress is really pretty!!
I´m also very excited to post on this thread!! Mine is Christina Wu 5383. (First 3 pics of me and last pic on the model and a random you tube video on a manikin)

@december - we are dress twins! Its an amazing (and heavy) dress isnt it :)
@pinkmonkee -Thanks! What dress did you end up going with? This one was the first one I tried on and I just kept going back to it...it's super plain but there are a couple changes we'll be making to it when it comes in. I dunno...I'm just super comfortable in it...and I still feel like myself in it... I'll proobably be wearing a birdcage veil too..
this is my FAVORITE sort of thread here...the dresses really come alive on real brides! you all are so beautiful. keep uploading the pictures, i love them. :)
I love these posts. It's amazing how different the dress look on real people. I guess it makes sense, though; to appeal to more women, the models do have to look sort of generic. You ladies look much better!
The first dress I bought I had passed over many, many times on the website (Maggie Sottero Milana). It looks extremely mermaidy on there, but on me, it just looks sort of slim A-line. I am not posting pictures here because I will be getting something else, so it's not really "my dress." I will be selling it when it comes in.
oooo I love this thread...i have only posted a pic of me in my dress once on here a long time ago....but here it is first the model then me
I think I look better in my dress than the model....gosh shes looks straight up and down...no curves!
Okay, I'll play. I don't remember if I posted on the original thread, but I'm so glad this has been brought up again. :) I really do love the contrast, ladies - all you real brides look STUNNING next to the lifeless models.
Here's mine:
