Do you and your SO use pet names in public?
Does it bother you when others do?
My Fiance and I almost always call each other Baby, Babe, Love, etc. The only time I make a conscious effort to use his real name is when we’re with family/friends. If we’re out just the two of us it’s usually ‘baby’. Does it make you cringe to hear people using pet names?

Not at all. It’s a sign of affection and shows that you two love each other. We call each other ‘babe’ everywhere. It’s super weird when he calls me by my real name.

@Birdee106: +1. FI doesn’t even answer me when I use his first name, lol. We don’t even use normal pet names like “babe.” We invented our own so it’s even worse 😛

Men, I couldn’t ever see myself caring if another couple were using pet names, I mean I might smirk if they were super gooey or dumb but why waste the energy?
I never make a conscious effort to call BF any particular thing at any time so I probably use a mixture of pet and real name 🙂

Erm… Yes but only by accident! I don’t mean to but sometimes a pet name slips out 🙂

We’ll use generic ones like “honey” in front of others. But we have more personal individual ones that are only used when it’s us two. Never in front of others.

I try to stick to “babe” in public for him, because at home I usually pull nickames right out of my ass and they are just fucking bizarre. Some notable mentions:
I have no reasonable explanation for this phenomenon.

@badabing88: LOL, I do the exact same thing. He’s like, oh so today I’m a duck? What will I be tomorrow, an otter? It’s very funny. There is one “standard” name I have for him, but the rest I make up as I feel necessary (and usually add on to the standard one).
Maybe I should try and be a little more normal in public 😛

it sounds strange when we use each others real names. I try to do it around family though so they don’t feel uncomfortable 😉

Since I’m in a same-sex relationship so I usually use my SO’s first name. It completely sucks because I only ever use her first name in public or if I’m referring to her when talking to someone else.
I look forward to moving out of the south where I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable saying “babe” in front of people.

@badabing88: LOL! Sounds exactly like my FI. I don’t even want to comment on the pet names he calls me haha.
Sometimes I’ll call him “babe” while we’re out in public, but we usually don’t. I don’t mind it at all though, I think it’s sweet.
