have to rant.
I work in an office that has several ESL employees. That’s totally fine, no problem. What drives me nuts, is that for some reason, when they’re on the phone in their native language they seem to think it’s okay to be extremely loud on the phone (i assume because no one can understand them here anyways – oddly enough they all have different primary languages).
If it’s an english call, they’re quiet and respectful, if it’s not they yell as if they’re the only ones here.

@MsGinkgo: I am equally loud in English and Russian 😀

Not the same thing, but I feel your pain today!
I work in a really small office and my little office nook is the closest to our waiting area. Right now, a client’s father is sitting in the waiting room listening to CELINE DION on full volume on his phone. And singing along. He’s been doing this for almost an hour. I want to kill someone.

@MrsPanda99: See that I would be okay with, you’re just a loud talker, that’s fine – the switching back and forth annoys me, they’ll even do it within a single call. The volume goes down for english and way up for whatever
@nber0815: that’s just hilarious – but i feel your pain

@nber0815: haha A lady I work with did that with Seal’s song “Kiss By A Rose” one day. I just let her jam out (maybe the song had some date relevant importance to her or something?) but I’ll admit it did get a little long in the tooth after the first three go rounds.

My dad is a very loud talker, but he’s nearly deaf. 😛

I kinda feel your pain. I’m a receptionist for esthetician and lash extensions, needless to say our waiting room/ my “office” is very small like 3 or more people waiting would be way too crowded. Most of our clients understand that this is supposed to be a very relazing environment, were quiet with spa music… such on and so fourth, and they will come into the waiting room on their phones talking about as loud as possible, almost as if they’re using cup phones Lol. then once they get off, they will engage in coversation with me at a very subdued, normal tone. It bothers the shit outta me!

@MsGinkgo: I’m only kidding. I actually speak very quietly at work. If I am speaking Russian at work, chances are I am mad at a family member so I will be outside in my car yelling at them 😛

My FH screams on the phone, as though the person cannot hear him otherwise. It drives me crazy! He yells at me too. We’ll be having a normal conversation and he’ll get excited about something and start yelling. Most of his family members are screamers too. The neighbors probably think we fight all the time, lol.

Everyone in my office talks loudly on their phones……..on speaker phone.

I find that certain cultures tend to talk more loudly than others. My Chinese and Carribbean coworkers basically scream into the phone. I notice on buses that the white people are usually silent/staring at their phone and the black people are playing loud music (without headphones) from their phones and yelling at one another. It’s cultural, I think. Your coworkers probably don’t realize that they are annoying you!
