Thats really good advice. When I tried on wedding dresses I fell in love with an allure mermaid style lace dress. The dress shop told me they would have to cut the dress in half, alter it as two seperate pieces and shorten it at the waist. They were very up front with me and said it would be pricey because of the lace. The idea of paying almost 500 dollars to have them cut my dress in half and then putting it back together terrified me so I continued my search. I ended up with an A-line lace dress that could be ordered with the short peoples tax (hollow-to-hem).
It sucks being short, but on the plus side you look amazing in your dress!
@MrsPinkPeony: haha. the short people's tax! love it!
Yeah, I was told that I would have to have the dress altered at the hips, but I had no idea that it would be so expensive/what was required because of the lace.

I wish I knew this back in January before I ordred my wedding dress.
I am petite - 5'0", small boned, big busted. I ordered this dress in a size 10 (so I could get it zipped up past my chest) - my hips/waist are a size 2.
I ordered the dress hollow-to-hem, but it was still too long so the seamstress had to shorten it a few inches. That was $180. It was so expensive because she had to take off the lace band between the skirt and bust, then shorten the lace and the under fabric.
Yesterday was my 2nd fitting for taking the hips in and getting a bustle put in. Because she has to take in the fabric at my hips from basically my waist to my knees it's an additional $255.
So, in hindsight I wish I would have ordered a mermaid style dress that wasn't lace, or order more of a ballgown or A-line style dress. If you are petite be prepared to get your dress majorly altered, or pick a design that isn't so fitted through your hips.
