I'm definitely considering it! Anything to elongate my torso, haha. Honestly, I'm going to try on many different styles to see what works, but I'd love to see pictures of other petite brides rocking a dropped waist dress.
I'm 5'3" and I'm wearing one. No pics unfortunately :( I totally think you can do it! I basically think all those rules about what body types go with what dresses are bunk. They kept trying to put me in traditional a line gowns and it just did. not. work. even though that's what is supposed to suit my body type. Instead I picked a fit and flare with a dropped waist and those consultants at the bridal shop were eating their words! If it looks good and you feel beautiful and sassy, then go for it!
I'm petite (5'4 1/2) and I'm considering a dress with a dropped waist such as this Jim Hjelm:

I haven't tried on any styles yet so I don't know what will look best on me, but this style is just so feminine and classic - I can't wait to try something like this on and feel like princess hehe.
I'm 5' 2" and got a dress with a dropped waist.....it's not altered yet in the picture, so you'll have to use your imagination a bit, lol.
I'm 5'3". Here's me in three different drop-waist ballgowns, and a much lower waist trumpet (which I ended up purchasing). All four dresses in photos are store samples in size 10 and I normally wear a size 2, so they don't fit quite right.
I'm 5'4 and I pretty much only tried on drop-waist dresses. I especially needed a very tight bodice and not a big skirt or else I felt overwhelmed...I haven't posted in awhile here it is:
btw - I'm wearing 3 inch heels underneath this and I'm standing on a box! : )
I'm 5'3" and I love the dropped waist style. I couldn't get enough of the while dress shopping and settled on Casablanca 1856. Here's a couple of pics of me in dropped waist dresses.
Ok so looking at all of you in those pictures, I have to say why wouldn't you want that style? You all look great - I think it totally flatters your figures. Maybe I'm still not getting how it "shortens your legs".
OMG Sarahsd, who makes that dress! It is AMAZING! I don't think I've ever had dress envy so bad... LOVE IT!
@Ngolden1-
I had no idea this style was suppose to "shorten my legs" either until I begin seeing posts about it. I still don't know what it's about though, I love the way it looks.
Rosa Clara Aire Barcelona (Berna)...it's barely online anywhere, but one of my local stores had it. Get it and then I can actually talk with someone else about it!
I'm 5'2" and I my dress is a minimal drop waist, but I think that dropped waist dresses are just beautiful. I do feel that it does make me look taller.
This is my dropped waist dress (sorry for the lousy pic quality). I'm 5'2":

I'm 5'3" and am wearing this drop-waist Alita Graham:

Awkward look on my face there, but you get the idea. Also, I am standing on the pedestal there, so I guess you can't really get a great idea of whether or not it makes me look short........ :( Haha, sorry.
I'm 5'2 and will be wearing an asymmetrical dropped waistline; I've heard that a dropped waistline isn't flattering on a petite woman, but the way I see it anything that accentuates your true waist is going to enlongate your legs!
I'm 5'2" and my dress is a modified drop waist. The photo is of me in the much-too-large sample and it isn't laying right at all at the bust or the hip.
I'm 5'3'' and mine is a drop waist dress (or at least, I think it is, haha)
I am 5'3 and have a dropped waist as well. to be honest i wasnt seeking drop waist dresses. once a bridal consultant gave me one to try on though i was hooked. these dresses make your figure look awesome! Even if your petite (at least i think so :) Heres a picture of mine, maggie sottero the charlotte. the dress is about 3 sizes too big so it doesnt do justice to how the dress will hug my figure so use your imagination.
I'm 5'8", so I have the opposite height issue. Heels should help some... did you try your dress on w/ them to see?
@aliciagray - who is the designer of that second gown?
does this count? it hugs all the way down to my upper thighs... i thought it made me look taller for sure! (only 5'1")

I'm 4'11 and very thin. I love the way it fits although I will still be wearing 4 inch heels.
I think these dresses are fantastic - it's all about proportion. I don't think they make anyone look short! :-) @ sarah - you look AMAZING in that dress.
I have a drop waist dress also and I'm only 5'1". I think they actually flatter our shorter frames more so than a huge poofy dress. I tried on a ball gown and I looked like a 10 year old in her mother's wedding dress. All these dresses look beautiful!
luvmyman.. i luv that dress... sooo cute, and i wouldn't guess you were under 5' at all.
Hey Alicia,
I was just wondering if you knew the names of the dresses in your photos:
I really like both of them!
Thanks!

I love this, but I am afraid it might make me look short... 5'1 and no heels in the pic
I just read somewhere that short-waisted, petite women should attempt to wear low-waisted jeans to "elongate the body", and I'm sure the theory applies to wedding dresses (at least I hope so!). The only other option to look taller would be to wear a fit-and-flare (or a trumpet, which looks fantastic here) or something with an empire silouette that fit correctly, in my mind.
I'm 5'3" and my dress has an assymetrical waist that's drop-waisted on one side. I think it makes me look taller. Of course I am on a stand here :) When I tried on dresses, people loved the drop-waist on me but I didn't like the style much until this one, I guess because it's not a full drop-waist. I think it looked unnatural sometimes. However, all the dresses posted here look amazing! I REALLY love Sarah's... It made me have a bit of dress envy!!
bloodgo1 who makes the dress you are wearing, I like the that style too! I am worried about the bottoms of the drop waist being too big and puffy since I am only 4'-11"

Ok, I've posted about my dress anxiety before...because I am 5 feet tall and got a dress with a dropped waist. I am dying to know whether any other petite brides pulled this off - and how they felt about it. Anyone have pics ofthemselves in their drop waist dress? Any other vertically challenged girls going with this style?
