I am only 5’3 so I am having a hard time with some of the proportions with wedding dresses. They sometimes don’t quite hit me at the right spot in the torso. I know that some designers will do dresses in petite – build everything for a shorter person. Does anyone know which designers will do this?

Hmm, I’m petite (5’0) but I’ve never heard of actual petite sizes. That would have been awesome. I know Maggie dresses looked good on me, and Casablanca would customize things, like cutting a dress hallow to hem for the right fit. I would think any designer who cuts hallow to hem for your custom dress would be able to do it “petite”, so I would ask the shops you go to which dresses are cut that way.

Maggies Sottero and Sottero & Midgeley do petite sizes but nothing changes other than the length of the skirt (3″ shorter). Meaning they don’t change the proportions of the rest of the dress.
Just keep trying on different styles and designers and you will find something you love.
I am 5’2″ and ended up with a Sottero & Midgeley in petite!

My dress is a Casablanca, and they did the hollow to hem measurement for me.
I am only 5’0.

I am 5’1 and I also got a Sottero and Midgely. I am not even sure what size they ordered for me but I am sure I got a petite hem. I think you just have to find the fit and ultimately it will be altered to your body.
Good luck and don’t give up!! 🙂

I know that I’m going to sound a bit like a broken record, but I’m ordering a Casablanca hollow to hem.
Also, I’m not sure what style of dress you’re wanting, but if you have a short torso, you might consider looking for a dress that has a slightly empire waist, as it will come up a little higher and possibly hit you closer to your natural waist.
I love Casablanca because a lot of their dresses hit me at my natural waist, and the shirts weren’t too full. Really full skirts don’t look right on short girls- there’s too much dress and not enough person!
Oh, and I’m 5’1″ for reference 🙂

Thank you! That’s very useful. The next round of shopping has Sotterro and Casablanca – I’m excited to try them on now!
