I'm 5' and I usually buy petite, so I would think that it would probably fit better on you also because of your height. Petite sizes are more proportional for those of us who are vertically challanged, so I would get the petite 2 if I were you. But, if you are really worried about it, you can get both sizes and return whichever doesn't workout since J. Crew has a great return policy.
CB and CF stand for Center Back and Center Front respectively. So for this dress your skirt will be 2.5" shorter in the petite size and the bodice will be slightly shorter.
I'm 5'4" so most of the time I buy regular size and have it shortened. I have a short torso and longer legs, but I find if I try on petite it's usually too tight in my regular size. I would go with the regular size and have it altered, that works best for me as I'm not really tall enough to be regular but not short enough for petite.
I think it probably depends on your build -- I am 5'4" and I usually buy petite dresses when I can find them (or I have to go for short, empire waist dresses for the straps and length to work). I got my wedding dress from J.Crew petites and it was the perfect length for me. Have you tried petite sizes in other clothing stores? If petite sizing usually works for you, I think it will work for J.Crew -- at least that's what I've found.
Can you buy one and return the other at the store? That way you can find out which fits best.
I am 5'1 and need petite sizes - I think JCREW has a free shipping deal right now so you could always order the P2 and return it to the store if you like the 0 better!
My sister is 5'3" and never buys petite. It depends entirely on your build I think. If you have a longer torso, I would say buy a regular size. But if they are having free shipping, buy both and return the one that doesn't fit. It will also depend a lot on the specific cut of the dress...some stuff the lenth matter more than others.
FWIW, in my experience the sizing charts for JCrew are completely off (too big). You may well be a 0P...but if 0 regular fits you, go with that.

I'm looking to buy a knee-length dress found at J crew I'm almost 5'3" and petite sizes are carried only online. I went to the store in person to try on their regualr size dresses and found that size zero fits me best.
So the questions is whether I should buy regular size 0 or petite 2. Based on their sizing chart, the waist & chest circumferences differ 1/2 or 1/4 in. (out of 32 in.) So I guess it's not a big deal there. However, CB and CF bodice height differs by 0.2 in. (out of ~4 in.) and CB skirt lengths are 26.75 and 24.25 for reg 0 and petite 2, respectively.
First of all, I have no idea what CB/CF bodice or CB skirt lengths mean. May someone enlighten me? Please also comment what size you think I should get. Or maybe it doesn't really not much difference between the two? thanks!
