So, I had my first fitting today!
My dress is fairly simple, so the alterations should also be fairly simple. She’s taking in the straps so that my armpits aren’t so exposed and that the neckline isn’t so loose, and she’s taking in the bust and the waist for a more snug look.
Ultimately she’s going to need to take up the hem, but I think I’m going to need to wear a petticoat. I tried on the dress with a mermaid petticoat but wasn’t in love with it.
Any one have any recommendations on a basic A-line petticoat?

I asked the lady at the alterations place what she suggested. She sees these dresses all the time and should know.

Hmm, I am not sure exactly what kind of petticoat you are looking for, but I would try vintage and costume shops. I am a costume designer and whenever I need a petticoat I look at vintage clothing stores or rental houses. I would also try online costume sources. Hope this helps!

After I wrote this post, I found this website. I’ve never heard of them and I don’t know how reputable they are, but they do sell A-line petticoats!
Now, which of us is brave enough to buy one? I love the pictures of the women in petticoats, bras, and veils. Very amusing.

I got my hoop slip from bestbridalprices.com – here’s their slip page: http://www.bestbridalprices.com/index.php?cPath=144&style=81
The only problem I had is that now I can’t get off their email list

Thanks for the post. I’ve been wondering the same thing, and also have an a-line but was told that the petticoat makes a big difference.

@worcesterbride: Thanks for posting that link. Glad you found it. Unfortunately, there’s nothing there that will work with my dress.
I’ll keep looking. I think I have a few weeks.
