We’re having our florist make 10 carnation pomanders for the church.  They are $25 a piece, but I think they will look nice.   They are the only decorations we are doing at the church.

I’m going to do little paper cones, containing a little test tube of water, holding a single large bloom- a peony, dahlia, hydrangea or such. I’m doing 12 of those, and starting at the top, one every other pew, so they’ll go 12 pews back, so to speak. Saves a fortune. And I was talking to a lady who does church flowers yesterday, actually, and she was talking about a wedding that had taken place there recently, where every pew had been decorated, and it looked totally fussy and overdone.

Of course it does depend what size your crowd is – you don’t want to stop a third of the way down the aisle, and you don’t want to be decorating empty pews at the back either.

I would pick some sort of pattern- every other row, every fourth row, something like that- which will make your arraignments look more evenly distributed.  I always think that decorating only the first few rows ends up looking sparser than if you spread them out over all the rows.  Also, if you wanted to add some more in, you could do just bows on some rows.  So you could do a pattern like flower-blank-bow-blank-flower-blank-bow-blank, etc.  Or you could run a ribbon draped from row to row in addition to the flowers to fill in the space some too.

We are going hydrangeas pomanders.  We are putting them every third pew.
