damarajade:  I did not have to do comps, exactly, but I was given a question a day for three days, and had to write an essay on the spot using info from a 40-book reading list. I was kind of nervous, but I had a miserable go during my masters. (Which is weird, as I graduated with a 4.0 but I was convinced I’d failed utterly. Oh, grad school!)

I think you will be fine. You really do know this stuff inside and out, I bet.

Good luck and congrats!!!! I’ll send good vibes your way.

I was a hot mess for comps (quals), but mine were KILLER. My dissertation defense was a breeze though. Every program is so different, I know some people who had the opposite. Either way, you’ll be fine!!!!

I bet you’re just so well prepared you’ve got nothing to be nervous about! My bar exam was a lot like your exams, two consequtive 8-hour days. I was extremely nervous at first but then when I started writing I was so calm it was almost creepy and I passed without a problem. It sounds like you really know your material so well nerves don’t stand a chance.

Good luck with your exams. I’m sure you’ll ace them!

damarajade:  I am preparing for my oral qual right now. I didn’t have to do the written exam because I passed the core courses with good marks, but writing a research proposal (~40 pages for mine) can be a pain. I am almost done, like today! My presentation will likely be next month. We have tons of projects and courses, so it keeps me busy.

Your topic sounds great! You’ll do great 😉 Take some snacks with you. Hopefully they allow them.

I was anxious about comps until I studied for them. When I started studying I felt really good! I was confident when I took them and did really well. I honestly loved the whole comps experience because I was finally able to connect everything I had been learning for the 3 years leading up to them.

Good luck!
