DH is having the people he supervises and their spouses over to our place tomorrow for a Christmas party. As of right now we are looking at 10-12 people.

I have spent the day doing the following:

    Decorating the tree

    Prepping pork meatballs (from scratch)

Prepping Gorgonzola stuffed bacon wrapped dates

Prepping stuffed mushrooms (with artichoke and cheese stuffing)

    Cleaning the kitchen

    Doing 2 loads of laundry

    Doing 2 loads of dishes

I still have to do the following (and it's already 5pm):

    Clean both bedrooms and bathrooms

    Vacuum the entire apartment

    Clean all surfaces

Figure out what serving trays/dishes we'll use

Complete alcohol/drink shopping list for DH to do tomorrow morning

I'm feeling very accomplished and domestic today, but I also feel like there's still SO much left to do to get the apartment "party ready".

@tksjewelry: I thought the long to do lists and seemingly endless tasks would be done with after the wedding was over... no such luck i guess!

It is a lot of work, isn't it?? I am hosting a NYE party and randomly my boss called me into her office the other day and gave me a 'free' day off for Dec 30th. That means my guests might actually get some from-scratch appetizers for once, lol!!

The more prepared you can be the better. I usually prep all of the trays with the food on them the morning of and keep them in the fridge until right before guests arrive. If you're heating things up in the oven that might get tricky, but try to stagger those if possible. Also, make it so ANYTHING the guests could ask for is right there in front of them. Put out all glassware where it can be seen, napkins, plates, ice cubes, etc. I strive to make it so my guests don't have to ask me for anything. Of course, it almost never works - but that's okay!!

Oh and don't forget to make space for their coats in your coat closet. Some people don't like to put coats on a bed (strangely enough) I actually had a couple girls at the last book club I hosted insist on throwing their stuff on the floor instead. So now we basically empty it out so no one feels 'weird' about where their stuff is.

@moderndaisy: Good call on the coats! We have a small few hook coat hanging thing near the front door, but that'll probably fill up quickly. We do have a good sized closet in both our bedroom and the second bedroom, but no hangers! I'll have to free up some hangers since we have a cat and placing coats on the bed would pretty much mean they'd leave with a coat covered in cat hair!

Almost all the apps are hot apps, so they are all prepped to be cooked in a staggered fashion tomorrow. Thankfully none of them have to be piping hot, just cooked and a bit warm so we *should* be OK!

I'm leaving DH in charge of glasses, alcohol, etc but I have a feeling I'll have to step in there as well. I just realized we don't have any cocktail napkins... maybe DH can get those tomorrow morning too.

I definitely know the feeling. We had a party on Friday for the first to become an annual Christmas party within our group of friends. It was crazy getting everything ready. But this was nothing compared to the housewarming a couple months ago. We only had roughly 15 people for the Christmas party whereas for the housewarming there was somewhere between 50-60 people there. This time it was a lot of outsourcing though. Still not the same satisfication as the housewarming though.

The party went over great. I thought I had too much food, but almost everything got eaten! People well overstayed the "advertised" time which was great because we were hoping for that since we didn't have any evening plans.

Only bad thing was we ran out of mulled cider, I made almost 2 gallons worth for 10 people. Guess when it's cold and dark outside, mulled cider with spiced rum is a big seller! Next time I'll make more since I didn't even get any.

I'm still cleaning off serving platters but it was well worth it. I'm definitely looking forward to having more parties, especially once it gets warm and we can use our outdoor space as well.

Although, the nice thing about it being cold is that our balcony also served as our bar because it kept all the drinks nice and cold.
