Philadelphia Venue for an afterparty/doesn't require to have a sit down dinner

That’s a tough one. I’ve researched Phila. area venues for 2 daughter’s weddings. If a venue is going to devote an entire Saturday evening to your after party, in lieu of a full reception, most will have minimums. Did you try looking at venues to rent? Although it might cost you $6000 to rent the space, the venue might not care what you have planned. However, most have a list of approved caterers, and that’s where you might run into an issue with minimums. Do any of the nightclubs in the city have private rooms? I know that tiered receptions are frowned upon, but I’m a member of the parent generation, with no interest in drinking and dancing, and would leave after the dinner, so there’s the possibility you don’t need to host all 200 guest, who were at the ceremony/dinner.

partyspace.com was a big help. We ended up in DE, for one wedding – no sales tax, for any of the vendors, and central PA, for the other (FHs family from Pittsburgh).

EuniceJ:  Okay so I have a few ideas: The Shofuso is a Japanese house and garden and is lovely and since you’re doing just drinks and hors d’oeuvres this could be perfect for you because they don’t charge you per head because it is up to you to bring the food and drinks. Cons about this place is no one can wear shoes inside because of the natural wood, which can kinda be food because you can get fun socks for everyone to wear. Another con is you can’t have any red wine, because it can stain the wood, and no open flames so that means no HOT hors d’oeurves. If you’re not really feeling that call them anyway because they have an area with in walking distance that is very cute and same rules apply as far as getting your own food and all BUT you can wear shoes and have open flames and whatever drinks you want! Con to this place is only part of the the location is tented and can hold I believe 75 BUT you have a big open lot in front of the tented area that you can always rent a dance floor for and there for more space. Another thing to look into is renting a bar such as Vengo, which is a sky bar downtown and it’s very cute and has lots of space, however I don’t know how things go as far as renting space and all that good stuff but it’s worth looking into. Only con I know of for sure is NO PARKING. It’s downtown so you have to find that on your own ya know. I’ll keep thinking as well. I don’t know the vibe of your wedding after party (formal, black tie, etc) so depending on that I might have a ton of more places to suggest.

UPDATE: I just saw that the Shofuso only has space for 75 but you can call about the other space

EuniceJ: No problem also look into Franklin Square they have a little space they rent out and it only holds 100 inside but you can have seating outside I believe it’s worth calling. Only down fall is they have prefered catered list.
