I am working with JAM for my wedding. I know that they have a minimum catering cost at needs to be met. I believe that for 2016 the minimum cost had to be $16000. For us this really wasn’t an issue because we are having about 175 people and we expected to be paying 100+ per person. For smaller weddings this may be an issue. You can go below the minimum but they will charge you a fee. For our menu we had a budget per person and JAM was very willing to work with us to be able to include certain things that we wanted and reduce costs elsewhere in the menu.

Regarding working with JAM, I haven’t had my wedding day yet but so far in the process Shannon and Kate have been so helpful. I am living in California but planning a wedding in Pennsylvania which can be stressful but Shannon and Kate have really made it easy for me. They are quick to respond to email, happy to talk to me on the phone when I have questions/concerns.

I am working with JAM too! They have been pretty great to deal with so far. I think the minimum is really dependent on which venue you are having as some venues are more in demand than others.

I think the best thing to do is really just ask up front. Everyone I have dealt with has been really helpful and easy to work with. I wanted something a little different for the cocktail hour, but they knew my budget, and that my idea was going to be outside my budget. So they explained to me why it would cost so much, and then offered different alternatives to save money.

Working with them has been great, so I would defintely recommend getting in touch with them and seeing if they are able to work with you. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

I am working with JAM! It is definitely going to be tight for us, because we are having a 175 person wedding. We are going with the bistro menu to be able to afford it, but we know from friends of ours that it is plenty of food and so we don’t have to worry about the cheaper option looking cheap. For me, it came down to wanting the venue (Duke Art Gallery in Wallingford PA) and the date they had open, and just deciding to cut costs elsewhere. I’m not sure they can work too much with cutting out food to save money, but if you ask and hear back let me know 🙂

What’s great about JAM that you don’t have with other caterers is they don’t charge extra for the rentals, and they do include the cake which is another cost. Budgeting for weddings is so tough–but just consider with your decision that this is a very well respected caterer and I have heard only good things about all of the coordinators as well; so far Craig has been amazing!

I am still pretty early in the negotiating process with JAM – we are just getting ready for our tasting in a few weeks. They are really open to you playing with their “cheaper” menus and just adding things. I have heard that if you give them more freedom with the menu, i.e. not being super specific with items, that it can sometimes get a little cheaper and it is definitely more creative! I don’t think you can go wrong with their more basic menus.

I saw 3 JAM venues and noticed the catering prices differed depending on the venue. So take that into consideration. The Bistro Menu is their most basic package and like PP said, they are open to you customizing the menus. You still get the same quality food and service no matter what price you pay, rest assured. Also, you get a coordinator on your wedding day to take care of everything that’s included in the catering fee. So far, we’ve had no issues working with them. They’re very responsive, answer all of our questions, and have given advice for little details that we didn’t think about. It’s just nice to know that I only have to contact one person for the food and venue.

JAM has been amazing to work with for my June wedding! If you’re able to work with them, definitely do! They’ve been very flexible and accomodating in my experience!

I second what has been said above, I am working with JAM for my September wedding, and they have been very accommodating and able to work within a budget. The food is fantastic and is reasonably priced for everything you get, and they include things like wedding cake in the package that many other caterers do not. My venue (John James Audubon Center) is BYOB, so you can save a ton of money there too! JAM has been super helpful and a joy to work with in the planning process.

I agree also.  We are using them and they have been great with us about using the base package and then just adding upgrades. As someone mentioned above, they have a bistro menu which is cheaper but you can add things.  We are getting a discount for having our wedding on a Friday — there’s lots of Sunday /Friday/off season discounts.  It may differ by venue, but we did not have to meet a catering minimum.  The BYO part saves a ton also. We are really happy with them and encourage you to check out a few venues! We did not think we would be able to get married in Philadelphia due to costs until we found them!

Yes yes! Definitely go with them! I’m getting married at the JJAC in July. Jeffrey Miller Catering has been nothing but fantastic! The food is great, they’re incredibly organized, and they work with you to help plan every detail. There’s a lot that they include for the price: rental of all of the basic things you need, cake, an on-site coordinator day of, plus the JJAC is a BYO. All of those costs really start to add up if you have to purchase or rent it separately.
