I'd try the Media Bureau/ MBN Studios in NoLibs - it's definitely off the beaten path and a unique space if you're looking for something really artsy/rough-around-the-edges. I'll keep thinking!
There is also Power Plant. I am not sure of their prices thought. We attempted to look there but could not coordinate a day and time to go see the space. Here is the contact info:

There is also the Philadelphia Center for Architecture. The space is neat and their prices are super affordable.
I came across a site for an AWESOME loft in Fishtown (I think) that looked so cool that I was kind of bummed that I didn't book it. But now I can't remember for the life of me what it was. It's KILLING me.
I'll keep looking, though.
Okay, I still didn't come up with it but here are a few more:
Society Hill Dance Academy. I don't know what it costs but it's nice and not too traditional. I was at a wedding there a few years ago and it was awesome.
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. It's a mosaic installation and gallery. Amazing. We almost had our wedding here but I think we have too many people. But if you have 75, it should be okay. It's $1500 to rent but that includes nothing but the space. No catering or table and chair rentals.
The Painted Bride is also really cool but I don't know anything about pricing.
We are having our reception at World Cafe Live (downstairs). We looked at so many venues in Philadelphia and even the ones that seemed affordable were less affordable after we totalled everything up (site rental, caterer, booze, tax/grat, cake cutting fee in many cases, the list goes on!). We are spending more than we originally budgeted for but feel that we are getting a fantastic deal. The venue also really fits our personalities and we love the people we are working with so far. Good Luck!
danadelphia- do you mean
?
don't know anything abut it but it looks awesome.
if i remember correctly, the society hill dance studio was extremely pricey. like, me asking, "are you serious!?" pricey.
2424 is a really cool space - it's in fishtown, right by aramingo ave. there's a big open space with a balcony looking down. it's neat!
Check out The Chestnut Club (PM if you do, I'll give you some added advice). I love the space, but alas, it is too small for us.
Also, I don't know the price, but Artesano Gallery looks incredibly cool (also for a smaller afair). (It isn't in CC, but it is close-ish)
I also looked into the Philo Club, I don't remember if we got into pricing with them though.
Good luck!
I checked out the skybox a few months ago, and it is awesome!
Also check out: www.frontandpalmer.com It's a unique warehouse, and it's catered by Feast Your Eyes Catering.
What about looking into restaurants? I know that Stephen Starr does catering!
All of these ideas look beautiful and fun for lots of couples. But I don't think anyone noted my budget. I'm looking to do the entire wedding for $6k. Not just the venue. That Chestnut Club was $5500 for just the space! I actually laughed out loud.
I don't know, guys. I just bought my dress for $41. Maybe I'm trying to do the impossible here by having a wedding at this budget at all. :(
Philadelphia is a really expensive area to get married in - I went through an extensive venue search, and I'm not sure you could do a traditional wedding for that price. You can definitely save on all the smaller things like dress, stationery, flowers (if you have them), etc, but it's really really hard to find a pretty venue and a meal for that cheap!
If you do find something, please share - I would be curious to know.
AAAAHHH!! Front and Palmer was the one I was trying to remember!
did you try the colonial dames? you can rent out the garden and downstairs for $1200.
This is a really nice Art Gallery in Wallingford, PA. We looked at it - it was redone about a year or so ago. The rental fee is a bit high, but I think if you make a nominal donation to the Arts Center to become a member, they will lower the rental fee. Also, have you considered having your wedding on a day other than Saturday? With your price restrictions you might find better deals having it on a Friday or Sunday.
6K for a wedding in a gallery space might be a little unrealistic. You want to find a place that has NO rental fee, like a restaurant. I'd recommend Joe Pesce in center city. It's a nice restaurant and their food packages start at $29.95. They don't have a rental fee and they're incredibly experienced in hosting parties.
We're currently looking at them for our own wedding and they've been very helpful.
Oh I forgot about this place! It's the Philadelphia Center for Architecture. We looked at this place for our reception. It has a very urban/loft feel and the rental fee is very low compared to other places downtown (about 1k depending on what room you need). Plus, you can bring in your own caterer which can save you a ton of money.
Are you set on Center City or are you willing to branch out a little? I know there are some nice venues in the Media/Chester/Glen Mills area...
We are planning our wedding as well on a tight budget and I feel like I have scoured the city looking for good deals. Unfortunately, if you are trying to stick with dinner and dancing style reception, it's hard to get below 9-10,000 for all of that here in the city. The fact that your guest list is pretty manageable though, I'd definitely recommend checking into restaurants, especially if you're not as stuck on the dancing part. As well, consider restaurants for the catering (even a place like Dibrunos). The Painted Bride which someone else mentioned is $2,000 for just the space.
You may want to think of more picnic style in Fairmount as well as if you know anyone at all with a great back yard/space (outside of the city perhaps?).
Good luck and keep us posted - always nice to hear experiences of others doing it on a small budget as well!
Here are some ideas:
Valley Green Inn (might fit your budget to do an afternoon wedding)
What about Ladder 15 in Philly? I was just there a few months ago, and the place is awesome! Two floors, two fireplaces, and 35 foot ceilings!
I would also look in NJ if I were you. Prices are signifigantly lower. For example, although it's a banquet hall, for our wedding, we get all food, alcohol, cake, dessert table, tuscano table, waitstaff, centerpieces, coordinator and the ceremony site for $88pp (incl tax and gratuity).
Oooh, I am so glad that someone mentioned the Print Center. We are having our welcome cocktail party the night before our wedding there. The site rental is $ 750 and you can bring in any caterer that you want. We are probably going to spend $7,000 for 150 guests. The main downside is that you cannot do any dancing. Good luck!
Are you willing to look outside of Philly?? Wilmington,DE has a great place... The Center for Contemporary Arts..not sure of pricing but it has the modern loft feel your looking for

you could check out jack's firehouse in fairmount, they have a second floor used for banquets...

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I am currently scouting a venue for our wedding (ceremony and reception) in the Philly area that fits our major budget. We are in the market for a gallery/loft setting; a place that is off the beaten path and definitely not a hotel or banquet hall. We are trying pull this off for less than 6k (I know, pick your jaws up off of the floor and keep reading) and will be having less than 75 guests.
Any ideas? I'm clueless. It's SO EASY to find expensive venues in Philadelphia, let's face it, they're everywhere, but the inexpensive ones are much harder to locate.
Help is appreciated!
