Does anyone have a photo of a real bride in this gown? Obviously, the model looks gorgeous, but seriously, no one is built like that. It doesn't have to be from a wedding - could be just a try on. Thanks so much!
That's my dress!!!!
I'm totally in love. This is me in the dressing room...haven't had the privilege of actually wearing it to my wedding yet!!

@money: now that's a heck of a way to rock that dress!! you look phenomenal!
@Diva: Thank you for the lovely compliment!
I totally love just looking at it! LOL. I want to show my friends, but I want them to be surprised on mybig day.
@livjasmine: there is also a very similar dress to the Galante that was strapless & had a little cut out on the bottom of the skirt, such that when you walked your shoes would peek out.
I was initially going for strapless, but I think the strap-version looked better on me--it elongated my torso. I was also considering have them add the little cut out for me, since the bottom of the dresses are otherwise identical--since I am dedicated to getting some amazing shoes (probably in fuchsia!). But the more I look at it, the more I think its actually perfect the way that it falls & I will leave it as is.
@money: do you think you could get it hemmed slightly shorter to show your shoes? Did the bride on whose wedding is it have the shortened version? I think she was in Florida or something like that? It had a very similar bottom but it was shorter (I actually thought too short, but now I am wondering if it was intentional... lol)....
omg...moneypenny02, you look GORGEOUS in that dress...it's like it was MADE for your body type (screw the hungry model), and the color is perfect with your complexion (does it have a hint of pink to it or am i imagining things?). i'm so jealous, i can only hope that my wedding dress will look half that good on me!
Thank you so much!
@veganglam: It doesn't seem to have any pink undertones in person, BUT it is the slightly less "pure white" of the 2 colors that it was available in.
I'm kinda nervous about the fit when I get the real thing, b/c when they took the measurements, my body spanned 4 different sizes depending on what was being measured!! I had also recently (unintentionally) lost a lot of weight which I am NOT confident that I will be able to keep off until August, so I decided to go for a size higher than the one the saleswoman actually recommended. (I actually got nervous and called her back after I had already placed the order & bumped it up one size!) I just hope there won't be too much material in some of the smaller places that it will be difficult to alter down.
@crebre: I think that I will just probably keep the dress as-is. I do like the way that it falls straight across & almost makes it look like a cloud when I walk. :-) Definitely needs to be shortened a bit though--I was tripping on it as I walked around!
Tried this gown on and loved it!!! @Money, you look gorgeous! Really flatters curves. Ordered the gown in the natural white, because the consultant at the bridal shop said that optical white is blinding. Will post pics when it arrives in May!!
I'm wearing purple shoes! (If I can find some that are relatively comfy and look H-O-T-T!) ;-)
@money: yay i'm so glad that you're keeping it as is!!! i love it!!!
Hi Girls! I actually just ordered this dress a couple days ago ( I changed my mind from my original dress) and am wonder if you are doing a veil w/ this dress or not? I'm completely in love w/ mantilla veils but think the lace would just not mesh well w/ the dress..Any advice? I'm also thinking of taking the flower off and putting it in my hair instead..THanks!
@ kkninceh -- Not sure about the veil. I never planned on having a regular veil, but I tried it on with the dress and it actually looked really nice. Not totally me however, so I won't be doing a traditional veil. I may try to do a birdcage veil. I am almost definitely doing a side bun with a flower, and I may just have the netting of the birdcage veil pinned under that. I will have to see how it looks, but if anything, that will be the extent of it.
I don't personally think that a veil would add too much to the dress/look, but if you find one that you think accentuates it well and gives it that perfect LOOK you are looking for, definitely go ahead. I don't think that lace, per se, would not go with the dress--it's more about the whole look that you are trying to achieve.
@money: WAY TO ROCK THAT DRESS!!! i dont know how it would look with a veil but i like the side bun thing:)
Thanks ellie & snapdragon!! Now I just need to stop eating copious amounts of cheesecake so that I can look as good (hopefully better ;-)) on my wedding day!
Hi! Moneypenny you look beautiful in that dress, awesome pic. I ordered this dress, it arrived last month and I just had my first fitting for alterations..but am concerned...this may sound silly but have you tried to sit down in the dress?? During my alteration appointment the seamstress had the clamps all the way down my back and when I tried to bend down it was impossible so I told her that she needed to leave enough room to sit! The corset part of the dress was stiff too! I got the dress in a size four and they still need to take in the sides a bit, so i am wondering if she just clamped me in it too tight?? Also, is the pic of you in the dress in the "off white" color? Thanks!
@ daniella - yes, this is the off-white color. As far as sitting.... :-/. I can neither confirm nor deny my ability to sit in this dress. The sample was very big on me and was clamped super tight. When I would try to sit down, the clamps would come off. When i tried on another mermaid-style dress on my first day of dress shopping, I couldn't really sit, and that was a dealbreaker. Another dress, however, if I just pulled it up a bit BEFORE sitting, I was able to sit down fine. I assume this one will be the same--but I think that I might also tell the seamstress to leave a little room as well once the alterations start. I don't think an inch or two of breathing room will make a huge difference in how the dress fits.
I do agree about the corset being quite stiff. I tried to dance a little bit, and moving above the waist was a bit difficult. I'm hoping that once it is actually my size & not clamped I will be able to break it in so that I can move well. Fingers crossed!!!
@moneypenny..thanks for your reply. First of all, we are going to be fine, the dress will be perfect. I think I just freaked out and wanted to see what someone else's experience was in this dress. I even asked the seamstress not to cut anything out of the dress until after the second fitting. I'll bet they just clamped us into our dresses really tight to show off our figure, but one we start alterations we need to ask for a bit of breathing room and it will just work out fine. It's just part of having this mermaid style dress : )
to any of the ladies that will be wearing this dress....are you doing crinolin? (sp?) I think I have one on in this picture, but I don't know that it made a huge difference, and I know I was REALLY hot wearing it. If I get it hemmed with the goal of wearing the crinolin I won't be able to take it off after the ceremony b/c I am sure I will be tripping over it. thoughts???
Hi, I tried the dress on and started alterations without the crinolin.. so far not planning on crinolin but I may try it on during the next fitting. Not sure if it would make a big difference though because the dress was poofy enough at the bottom anyway. Think about the date and time of your wedding, if you are having a summer wedding it might be too hot. Here is a pic of me in the dress I tried on at the bridal store without crinolin..sorry for the bad quality, the pic was taken on a cell phone and I was trying to decide if I was going to keep the flower on the front
.
Hi! Wondering what your verdict on the flower was? That was the only part about the dress my mom DID NOT like...she thought it would look better in my hair..Thoughts? By the way, it looks GREAT on you! makes me so excited for mine to get here :) Also, is that the off-white or white color? Thanks!!
Hi kkninceh,
I believe if you remove the flower you may have to find something (a brooch or pin) to place there. When I lifted the flower up I noticed that the fabric gathered there in an awkward way and didn't look so great. I didn't want to pull on it too much when I was inspecting because I haven't made up my mind yet, although I do think the flower would be beautiful in your hair. I saw another bride who removed the flower and placed her own brooch on the dress where the flower had been.
Also I can't remember if the dress in the above pic was white or off white (I took that pic 6 months ago)- my friend swears I tried in on in off-white, but it looks white to me in the pic. I DID buy the dress in off-white and I am happy I did, it came in last month and the color is nice because I am on the tan-side. Didn't take any pics at the first fitting, but I will post more pics after the next fitting.
Hope this helps!
@Any of the ladies that have ordered this dress....Did you do a hallow-to-hem thing? They didn't take any measurements like that for me, and I'm wondering how exactly you alter this dress to make it shorter ('cus I ain't 6 feet tall!).
@daniella - Do you happen to know where you saw the bride who had replaced the flower with something else? I would love to see how that looks!
I've seen that same picture I think....If you go to Google images and type in "Pronovias Galante" the picture is on the 5th page (I think). She's got the flower replaced w/ some type of a metal brooch
kkninceh..you're right, that's the site that I saw the other bride on. it's in spanish, but if you scroll down there's a couple pics there. I think the dress would look nice with a lighter colored brooch, maybe with clear swarovaski crystals and/or ivory pearls?? I met with my florist today and she was concerned about me carrying a bouquet and having that flower in the center of the dress...uh oh!

try this link...
Thanks! There is NO way I would have found that.
Ok, so I'm not sure how I feel about the brooch. When I first saw the suggestions (which I totally NOT even THOUGHT of before) I thought that would actually be very cool -- esp since the flower was my mom's least favorite part! I don't think that the bride could have picked a better one--it was very pretty & perfect in terms of size. Maybe it's because I've looked at the dress so much as it is I can't imagine it any other way, but it almost seems like a totally different dress!!
What did you ladies think?
@moneypenny re: H2H. The bridal store did not take my measurements for this, I didn't even know what it was until you mentioned it. I definitely need to have the dress shortened. The seamstress mentioned she will either lift some of the ruffles up or remove some of the longer ones. I'm supposed to go back next week so I'll ask her exactly what she's doing for this then.
omg I was thinking about getting this dress myself! I have been stressing about this dress. I just tried it on - twice this week haha. It looks gorgeous on you all (moneypenny02, daniella and ericia)! I was worried about getting the dress since most of my friends wanted me to get a more traditional dress.
And to piggy back on the flower comments...I am not a flower person and when I saw this dress I was skeptical at first. So, the first time I tried on this dress the bridal store that had the dress sample did not have the flower on it when I tried it on. I tried a brooch and even some weird looking beaded appliqué on it and it made the dress look weird. I'm sure if you could find a better brooch it would work - but something that isn't to busy since the top of the dress has the frilly-ness going on. But when I tried the dress on for the second time with the flower on it I felt like it was beautiful. So now I am torn.
Do you think this dress would be ok for a fall wedding?
Is anyone thinking of re-selling their used Galante after the big day? I am a jan 2011 bride looking to order her dress... However, if I can get a used version, I would be just as happy. I could send deposit and pay for shipping.
Desperate to stay on budget!
Cheers!
Heres me at my first fitting...I'm have a rhinestone brooch added in the center of the flower to help add some bling and lay the flower back a little bit!
@kkniceh...Looks AMAZING on you!! Makes me excited to wear mine! Do you have a close up of the brooch? I think the flower does look much better flattened out as you have it in your pic.
Thanks! Daniela-I do not have a close up pic of the brooch but I will be sure to get one on my wedding day b/c I don't go to pick the dress up until then....It's a brooch by Bel-Aire bridal that I found at the bridal store that I bought my dress from...the picture that I posted does it no justice; it's much prettier in person :)
