I had no idea that wedding photographers made albums! I think mine is photographs only. Putting the album together is one of the parts I’m looking forward to the most. I LOVE photographs and photography.

ETA: I realise this doesn’t answer your question, it’s just a useless comment. Sorry!

I didn’t get an album, I bought a groupon to build a Picaboo album last week but I haven’t done it yet. It definitely won’t look like one of his albums, but I am ok with that. I did have to pay for full release of my digital files, however, and that can be expensive sometimes (to compensate for the fact that you aren’t buying prints or an album).

We’re doing the photo + print release only, but our photographer’s pricing is built on a basic package and then extra add-ons a la carte.

I personally prefer to buy the album later on, once all the wedding expenses are covered, and not have to worry about it in the process. But we’re on a budget, so your situation might be different.

As for pricing, so much really depends on where you are… I’d venture to say that decent photographers start at about $300/hour (probably more in NJ?..) and end at infinity.

@marissal7901:  ha, yes! My mom wanted to buy my dress, but I asked if she’d be willing to cover the photography instead. She got really confused, because surely photography can’t cost as much as a wedding dress?? 😀 I had some explaining to do there.

I did photos only.  My package included 10 hours coverage, 2 photographers, engagement session, and digital copies/printing rights to all pictures.  I paid $3100.  My photographer did 6 hours coverage for $2700.  I added hours to that package which is why I paid more.  I could have added an album or prints to mine but I didn’t want to deal with the expense at the time.

I’m working on an album for my parents online and if I like the way it turns out I might get one for myself.  My photographer runs specials twice a year and you can get an album at the same price point that it would have been if I had added it to my package.  So I wasn’t going to save tons of $$ by adding it to my package.  If I don’t like an online album, I can get one from her later.  You aren’t required to order one right away, I can wait a year or two if I want.

We are doing a photo only package. We will get a USB containing all of the high resolution photographs.  Our wedding is not until May so no experience on creating an album on our own yet!
