I'm looking for a program to create a photo slideshow. I'd like to be able to have actions like pan across and zoom into photos and to add music. I'd also like to be able to save it in a non-proprietary file format, such as .mov. ...And I'd prefer something free ;)
PowerPoint would serve all of these needs minus being non-proprietary, and you likely already have it. If you have a Mac, you can make a slideshow in either iMovie or iDVD as well. If you do it in iMovie, you can export (or "share" depending on the version you're using) to DV (with full quality) under the Quicktime menu.
If you do use iMovie, just turn on the Ken Burns Effect for any images on which you would like to use the pan and zoom effect.
Also, .mov is actually just the Quick Time wrapper- the file within it might be saved with a proprietary codec. At least, that's the way I understand it...
Unfortunately, I don't have a mac, because I've seen iMovies that are pretty impressive. It looks like Photostory is just what I was looking for. Animoto isn't quite right for what I want to do now, but it looks really cool. I'll have to bookmark it!
The new version of Picasa 3 (Google's photo editor/manager) that was just released has a pretty good movie/slideshow function. It does pans and zooms and can add music and it looks like it saves in the standard .wmv format. I just downloaded it so I'm no expert in it yet, but it looks very promising.

Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks!
