I’d go for the cocktails. It puts everyone in a festive mood. Unless there is some reason you don’t want to do alcohol in particular? A photobooth sounds fun too, it’s definitely a nice way to ensure keepsakes.

I honestly think a cocktail hour will be more fun than a photobooth, it’ll give time for some chit chat thats uninterupted by eating/speeches/loud music

It’s still nice to offer refreshments to your guests before the festivities start. How about passing around some dessert samplers (petit fours, mini fruit tarts, etc.) and punch? That way you’re not wasting money on alcohol no one will drink, people can enjoy some nosh, and everyone gets the chance to mingle before the ceremony.

@Ika:

I am doing something similar.  We are having our wedding and reception in his families church, so needless to say, no alcohol there.  I have been planning on having a photo booth since BEFORE we got engaged (haha), so I thought that the normal “cocktail hour” time would be a great place for that.  I am planning to have some refreshments (punch, tea, water, etc) and a few tiny apps, just while the groom and I are taking pictures.

We are having an “after party” at a different location for drinks and dancing, so there WILL be alcohol, just not during “cocktail hour”.  I hope this helps!
