My FI came up with a great alternative.  Instead of the same old recieving line he is going to create a backdrop and when everyone stops by we are going to pose for a picture with them.  Then we will send them the copy with the thanks you cards!

@lovelyduckie  We are having our ceremony on the lake.  People will then be invited to go grab a drink during the cocktail hour and make their way over to us for pictures.  So it will kinda be inbetween the ceremony and the cocktail hour.  He has had some pretty awesome ideas!  It’s just getting him to actually help with things that has been difficult.  ๐Ÿ™‚

We had one and it was awesome.  Guests loved it and it gave them something to do during cocktail hour.  I booked it early in my wedding planning and was so glad I did because it would have been something I cut to save on costs.  It’s totally worth every penny, IMO.

Key things that make or break a photobooth:

-Time it takes for photos to come out (at a friend’s wedding, it took FOREVER).

-Double prints (our photobooth popped out two prints – one for the guest to keep (their favor) and the other for them to make a scrapbook page for us (it doubled as our guest book and the photobooth company sent us a scrapbook with all the finished pages).  They also gave us a CD with all the pictures from the evening.

-Props – we bought hats, wigs, glasses, etc etc for people to dress up and be silly.

My only regret?  Not spending enough time in it myself!

@nearlymarriedlass:  we had one, our guests are STILL talking about it! It came with huge amount of props, an attendant, a video recording option (which to me is priceless, we now have all those pics of our silly friends/family plus recorded messages congratulating us), an option to email the pics or vids to your personal email, and a guest book.  There is also a black and white option. We had a formal guest book but a separate one for the photobooth that they made and it is beautiful with a custom cover with our names and the date. They printed double prints then put one in the guest book and gave the guests a pen to write well wishes.

They also had an option where you can put a “logo” at the bottom which we did.  Here are a couple of the strips–the first is one of ours (we did a bunch), second is my dad/stepmom–sooo funny if you know my dad, he’s usually very serious so seeing him silly like that is hilarious. The last is a our neighbor and his girlfriend. Everyone loved it!

DO IT! I can’t recommend it enough!

We had one and it was awesome. Our photographers did not capture photos of every guest (and I wouldn’t expect them to) so the photobooth captured pictures of guests that otherwise didn’t get photographed.

We love it as guests because it’s one of the few favors we keep. We don’t need any potpourri, succulents, cookies, etc. but we wouldn’t turn down pictures of ourselves. ๐Ÿ™‚ Ours from different events actually get displayed on our fridge.

We had a lot of compliments on ours and even the super old, conservative folks got in on the action. I highly recommend props (you can rent them or provide your own). We opted to purchase our own in the theme/colors of our wedding.
