Hi littlebride, my photographer required a 50% deposit with a signed contract with the remaining balance to be paid off at least two weeks prior to the wedding date.

Depends on the photographer.  Mine required what works out to a 12.5% deposit, with 50% due a few weeks before the wedding, and 12.5% due after, before the photos are delivered.

I'd say 25-50% is standard, with the rest due 1-2 weeks prior to the wedding. Your photographer will generally require that deposit before locking in your date.

My deposit was $300, or a little less than 15%.  I'm not really sure why it was so low...

My photographer wanted 1/3 of the money when we signed the contract, which was also the day that we took our engagement pictures.  The next 1/3 will be in a couple months and the final 1/3 a month before the wedding.

    Hope that helps!

Mine required only 20%.  I didn't realize until I read this thread that that was pretty low!

We had to put down a third at signing. Then another third at the wedding, then another 5 weeks afterwards, when the stuff is delivered.

It is normal for a deposit to be required in order for the photographer to reserve your date. Each photog is different regarding amount. I paid $500 for my deposit on a $2000 package. The rest was paid 10 days before the wedding.

The photographers I'm looking at range from $500-$1500 for deposits. They all cost about the same price too.

Yes, you will most likely have to put a deposit down. Ours was $300 to hold the date which was taken off the final bill.

It varies from photog to photog.  I was lucky and mine only requires $500 down, I'm pretty sure the norm is about 50%.

When I booked our photographer we had to pay a deposit of 25% now and then 25% 3 months before the wedding and then the rest 2 weeks before the wedding!

I paid $400.  The reason they want you to pay a bigger percentage than less is so you don't decide to go with someone else.  But mine was considerably less than what most photographers asked for, which was at least 50% upfront.

It is common practice for a photographer to require a 50% deposit to reserve that day with your photographer. You should never pay the full balance until you have received the final work or the final work has been posted to an online site for you to order from or something of that nature. Other wise you'll have a shoot-and-run more than likely where the photographer will shoot the wedding but not mess with the photos afterwards and never get them to you. Most photographers love to shoot but hate editing and printing. Make sure you research your photographer and ask a few of the photographers clients how their experience was with the photographer before booking with him/her.
