We’re using Kristen at Jubilee Photography: http://www.jubilee-photography.com (she’s in Wilmington).  She’s so much fun and our engagement photos turned out great.

what is your budget?

I loved Nicole Polk (my photographer!), Pat Furey, and Tim Dinofa. I also really liked Peter Gabriel and Hoffer Photography.

Also what style do you like- that makes a difference too…

  • Wedding: March 2010 - Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay

mrs. ladybug, mrs. bell pepper, mrs. candy corn, and mrs. cupcake all got married in the philly area–you can look through their archives and, if you like their wedding photos, that might be a good lead!

Yes, I had the same problem…photographers are pricey!! Of those that I mentioned Pat Furey was the most affordable. His rates (as of Dec 09) were “For the base investment of $3,000, you get me for 10 hours, a 2hr engagement session, a high-res DVD, and full print/reproduction rights to any images you receive (typically 750, to 1,000ish final photos)” He was supercool…maybe he would work with you if you take some things out. He is sort of just starting out, but has been doing weddings for awhile with other photographers.

Another photographer that was recommended to me was KGMexpressions. Kim is also just starting out but she has good work her fee on her website is “By demand, I am now available for weddings. Full day coverage with two photographers starting two hours before the ceremony, through your reception is $1,500. This fee does not include paper proofs, but rather your entire wedding posted online for all your family and friends to see.” she uses a second shooter with this also. It doesn’t specify about proofs, so you would have to ask for that. When I inquired about pricing in Dec I think prices were included.

Good luck! I would love to hear what you end up deciding!

Just checked Kim’s (KGM) website in the Q and S section. Sounds like she doesn’t include the negatives anymore…

We are using Laurie Beck – she was so nice and willing to work within our budget though her posted rates were higher. She also has a second shooter. http://www.lauriebeckphotography.com/

I called a ton of photographers before choosing Laurie, and while there were others whose work I liked, I didn’t feel like our personalities clicked. Georgi Anastasov has some GORGEOUS work, but he sounded unprofessional on the phone and had never even heard of my venue. Maybe couples who are ok with a more casual approach could work well with him – he just did not inspire confidence in me at all. When I asked him about what equipment he uses, he responded, “Why? Are you a photographer?”

I also talked to Kim from KGM Expressions, and while the price was right, she sounded kind of snobby on the phone – she made me feel like my questions were stupid, which is a big no-no for me.

If you were to splurge I would say Cliff Mautner, if you need a little more affordable, even though she is out of NY I would suggest Kimberly Salem, she is up and coming so a little more flexible on pricing and her packages.

I am using Mary Kate Burgess from Kate’s Lens Photography.

I think her prices are reasonable, and she has an a la carte option, so you could just get photography and a CD of images for (I believe) less than $1500 (depending on how many hours you hire her for).  I haven’t had my wedding yet, but she is super nice and I liked her portfolio.

We are using Michael Smith- Ash Imagery. Working with him has been the best decision we have made. I saw his work online and I knew I wanted to see our wedding day through his eyes. When the day is said and done ALL we will have left is photos and memories. We wanted him before we even had a venue/date…there was one venue that we fell in love with that had one available date in October. When we realized he was already booked that Saturday we decided we would simply *find another venue* & we did! Michael actually helped us a great deal looking online and giving us suggestions of places. When we met for the first time in person we met up at a coffee shop and the 3 of us talked for 4 hours! Right away I knew he was not only going to be the best vendor of our wedding but someone we will always consider a friend.
