A 2-3 hour session with our photographer would be $300, and more if you wanted a disc of high res, edited photos with personal use rights. So $125 would definitely be on the low side, especially if it came with a disc and rights.
I think the main photographer for your wedding would reserve the right to choose his/her own second shooter, rather than having one sorta foisted upon him/her.
My photographer offered a bundle deal of engagement photos, makeup (engagement and wedding), wedding album, engagement album for $3000. For just wedding pictures, it would've been $1200, so for a first time shooter charging $700 is too much. I wouldn't gamble with wedding photos since you have one shot at it! My photographer is very picky which is what I think every bride needs since my photos came out perfect!
Many photographers including e-shoots in the wedding packages. However, my photographer had a $200 cost for a 1.5 hour e-shoot
Every engagement session that I've seen went for $300 when included in a package.

I'm trying to get an idea of how much photographers charge for an engagement shoot in the NOVA area. I had a friend who is trying to start a photography business do ourstoday. She said since she is just starting to build her portfollio she was only going to charge $125 and the session lasted about 2 hours. I think she did a good job but I've only seen one edited photo so far.
She has never done wedding photos before and she said she would charge me $700 just to be second shooter which means I would still have to be pay the main photographer his normal price. Does this sound reasonable?
