Would not care. I pulled my photographers and videographer aside and told them to make sure they got a slice… It was sooo good! It never even occurred to me that they shouldn’t eat cake. Seems a little weird that anyone would be upset about that. At that point during the reception people are mostly just dancing or mingling so it’s not like there’s a lot they need to capture.

PassionatePhotoLady:  i didn’t vote, because none of your answers were really spot on as to what i’d say. i think if the photographer had a piece of cake afterwards, by all means that is fine. i doubt anyone has so many guests and so little cake that one piece would cause a guest to miss out.

as with eating dinner, chances are if your photog is pausing their photography, they either have a second shooter, or are doing it while others are eating (because do you need 40 shots of people eating?).

unless the photographer sacrificed photos that i wanted so that he/she could eat cake, i don’t see how it’s a big deal. i mean, it’s a piece of cake. how could it take more than 5 minutes to eat anyway?

I would not be offended at all if they enjoyed a piece of cake. The cake is there for everyone, I expect my cake to be absolutely delicious, and who am I to be the person to say NO you may not have a simple piece of cake? I expect my photographer to take a break, eat a meal, eat a piece of cake, enjoy a beverage, and then resume shooting for a little bit. He’s (or she) is going to be there for 8 hours or more – a piece of cake is not one of my concerns, and I’d rather have them energized and happy taking pictures than sluggish and irritated that I said no to a piece of cake, of all things.

Right now and prewedding I’d have said annoyed but on the day of my wedding I was so happy I know i’dve been like “yes have some cake! Enjoy! No worries” lol

Good lord, this is a person who is often working 8+ hours straight with only a short break to shovel down some food. Let them have a piece of cake, they deserve it. Anyone who gets annoyed probably isn’t a very gracious host.

Thanks to this thread, I will be making a point to my photographer that I hope she has some cake 🙂  Seriously, I can’t imagine getting upset about this!

Let them eat cake! as they say.

I wouldn’t be bothered.  How many favorite wedding photos are taken when the guests are eating their cake? Plus I doubt they’d be sitting very long, just a quick break for a sugar rush.

PassionatePhotoLady:  and some people probably would be upset if the vendor wanted anything but bread and water and a 5 minute break.

honestly though, i would rather my vendors feel well taken care of, happy, not hangry, and like they are a person and not a servant. happy vendor = quality product/outcome = happy me!

PassionatePhotoLady:  that’s sort of a different story, though.  Standing in line to get cake instead of doing shots you were supposed to get vs. getting some cake when you have a free minute.  Also its cute when the photographers rave about your wedding.  They have been to a lot afterall.

PassionatePhotoLady:  As a host I would be mortified if the photographer did’t fell welcomed and was fed (cake included) at my wedding. They are working 8+ hours to capture a very special day. Although I’m sure it’s a fun job, it’s still work. We all get breaks with our jobs, they deserve one too. I would certainly make sure to tell them to grab a piece of cake and enjoy. Get to know our guests. Have fun.

Plus, good etiquette and hosting skills go a long way… Maybe the photographer does family/baby shots, so when that day comes & you want a holiday family photo, they’ll remember you real well and how hospitable you were.

Everything I ever heard (and what I did) said that it was proper etiquette to feed your vendors, especially if they would be working during meals.  Feeding, in my opinion, means giving them the food available which includes appetizers, entrees, and dessert.  It’s their job to coordinate their eating around the shots they need to get.  I’d be rather shocked if anyone was that picky about cake when the photographers are on their feet working for 8+ hours.
