- Wedding: September 2011
Hey all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. Our wedding was great and it was a perfect day! However, what we’ve been dealing with afterward has been a royal pain…
So, here’s some backstory: When we hired our original photographer, she was a friend of a friend who came highly reccommended, especially since our budget was incredibly tight. About a week before the wedding, she bailed due to a family emergency, which I can understand. Regardless, I went into uber panic mode because I knew that there was no way I would find a photographer who would be in our price range at such short notice.
My mom steps in a saves the day by finding an amateur photographer from our local community college. Was she a professional? No, but I was stressing out so bad already that I was just glad to find someone with an ounce of experience willing to come photograph our wedding at the price we needed. When I met her and looked at her work, I was impressed and I thought she was incredibly nice and professional. She was just statarting to get her own business of the ground and wanted the experience and photos to put in her portfolio, so she gave us an amazing deal. It seemed like the perfect fit. After the wedding, it took about a month to get copies of the pictures from her (no biggie, that stuff takes time). She split the pictures up on two discs. Now, this is where it starts to go downhill…
In December of 2012, I was informed that I would be moving down to Texas. I had no notice and had about a week and a half to get everything in order, by myself. In the craziness of it all, I lost one of the discs that had the first batch of photos on it (getting ready earlier in the day, the ceremony, the dinner). Before I left, I called and asked her to send another one to my parent’s house since I didn’t have an exact address yet. I offered to compensate her for the time and cost of the CD and she said, “Oh dont worry about it, I’ll do it next week!”. Well, that was 8 MONTHS AGO. We’ve been trying ever since to get those photos and she just kept making excuses. She was going through some tough times, so I cut her some slack. About a month ago, my mom gave her more money (about $30) to go get the photos done and she told my mom that she would have it done by that weekend. We’ve tried calling, texting, and sending messages on Facebook (which I know she has seen). This morning I found out that her phone has been shut off and she has deleted her Facebook.
Who the hell acts like this? I feel like there is nothing I can do since it was such a last minute thing, we didn’t write up a contract or anything. She was absolutely fantastic up until I asked for another copy of the disc in December. I know that there was no contract, but since we paid her for her services, is there anything that we can do? I know it’s a long shot, but I’m honestly in tears right now and feel like getting those photos back will never happen.
Thank you to those who read this huge wall of text. I realize I put myself in this situation, but I’m still hoping that there is something that can be done.
