    hi bees,

We are looking at a photographer here in the small town of galax, virginia not many people know where that is but the photographer is well know around here and i have had few pics done with her and she wasn't that expensive . So, When me and my Fiancee sit down a few weeks ago to start talking about photography for the wedding , this place was the first one to come up with me and him . Then we talked about a few more smaller photographers some where friends of other friends and we also looked at there work , but we keep coming back to this photographer and i just love the way her pictures look. So, Me and Mr Roberts decided to go and talk with her . So the next few days we did we talked about e - pics and the wedding photo's , We talked about when we wanted the e- pics done and she suggested the beginnig of march which is a beautiful time here in va cuz the trees are starting to bloom from the awful winter's we have. So we decied where these are going to be took, and before we left she said she would email me her price list for 2011. ........

So Today i received the Price list :

The Lowest package is 1,000 and go up to 1,950

Ladies to you all think that this is to much for my speical day !

I Want her to do my pics, but my dad is paying for the pics and he thinks that 1,000 is pricey for wedding pics.

me and mr. roberts don't know what to do .

How Much Would You Bee's Pay for your [photographer ?????

    Thanks for helping bees,

    Megan

I would say that is actually a steal. There are photographers here that charge $8500 for 8 hours of coverage only because they are so well known and because they can.

That's actually quite cheap for photographers. To compare, a great photographer in my area with no albums, no prints, nothing but a disk of edited files for 9 hours starts around $3500. You can go cheaper, but it gets to be of scary quality quickly.

Remember that you aren't just paying for the time they are at your wedding. You are paying for the 40 hours it takes to edit a whole wedding's photos, their $15,000+ of equipment that needs to be updated fairly regularly, their website designs, web hosting, insurance, and other overhead.

It's expensive for a reason! Photographers typically don't make a ton, either.

Your dad is probably suffering from wedding sticker shock.  Everybody goes through it.  Get some quotes from at least two other photographers and show them to your Dad as well.  That'll help put things in perspective.

1,000 is on the less expensive side for wedding photos!

We paid $1450 for 2 photogs/8 hours - I think we got a steal too!

@beachmomnva: Honestly, it depends on how expensive the average photographer is in your area. That would be a good deal where I live! If you feel that the quality of photos and the package the photographer offers is great, then you should explain to your dad that you've done your research and the price isn't that bad and you really like the photographer and discuss it further from there. Hope that helps - good luck!

I'm in Oklahoma and we will be paying our photographer $2500.  The only photographers I've seen around here with prices that low don't have the talent that I'm looking for.  I say you're getting a steal!

That would be super cheap for our area, too.  I'd say that for most areas, that range is a pretty good deal for a package that includes coverage, pictures (even just digital with rights to print), and e-pics.

I'm paying $3800 for mine.  That also includes the engagement shoot as well.

average beginning price range for a pro is $1500. I'm not native but I don't even know where in VA you are. I do know that the larger cities people would be blown away and clamoring for a $1000 photography package from a pro. Most other parts that would only get you a newbie trying to build a portfolio...

I'm still looking for a quality photographer in my area and the best I have found is 3100 for wedding, engagement and ownership of the files.  Thankfully, I'm not into the albums and my family is very practical and doesn't want them either.

What you are getting is a great price in comparison to my situation.  If you are uncertain keep shopping around and you may find a better price or become more comfortable with that this photographer is offering you.

IMO, $1000 for a good photographer is a steal. We paid $2500 for our photographer (wedding pics and e-pics), which I also thought was a total steal, considering her quality of work.

Sounds like your dad might be having sticker shock. It might be helpful to provide him a short list comparing photographer’s prices in the area. I had no idea how much things actually cost when I first got engaged, and figured we could probably get a good photographer for $1500. Our venue provided us a list of recommended photogs, which started at $2200, and went up, steeply from there! Several had packages which started at 5k.

If your dad really doesn’t want to pay more than 1k, you and your FI could always just pay  the difference yourselves, which wouldn’t be too bad since your dad would be paying for the majority of the package.

That's a very good price. We are looking at 2500 for an e-session, 8 hours on wedding day, 2 photographers and processed photos - Those are standard prices around here, actually on the cheaper side.

That sounds like a good deal to me. I've seen photographers charge that much but take terrible pictures. Where I live it is twice that for a good photographer.

That is an amazing price, our photographer is $2,100 for 9 hours and a disc of the edited images. Most of the other photographers in our area were at least $1,000 more just to start. We did our engagement pics out of state and that was $400. My FI had sticker shock too when it came to photogs so I would definitely get some other quotes.

I agree with the above comments. It depends where you're located. If I were living where I got my bachelor's degree at, I could get wedding photography for 1K but our wedding will be near where we grew up in St. Louis and the average quality price is $3600 for 8 hrs with two photographers and only includes an album but no prints, cd etc. With that being said though, the photographer is one of the few areas on my wedding I was planning on spending the most money on--I've seen some people skimp on the photographer and truly regret it.

It depends on your area and what you are looking for. Just keep looking until you find "the one". I spent 1 month to find my photog...

I am in LA and my photog cost me $4,000. The average price here for a good photog starts from 3,000

    What I got for $4,000-

    1. E-pics, & 16*20 pic on wedding day for display

    2. Unlimited hours (Traditional Chinese Weddings always run over-time b/c we have tea ceremony also)

    3. Pics on CD

    4. Album- 30 pgs

    5. Guest sign-in book

    6. 2nd photog

Overall it's a good deal but FI and I decided not to reveal the price to parents. We are paying by ourselves.

    Good luck! =)

Just wanted to say that half my family is originally from galax and the area around there.  They all moved to northern VA in the 60s, but we still go on vacation around there.  Such a pretty part of the state!

And yeah, I think $1000 is not a lot of money *if* you really love the photographer.  Obviously, you should get quotes from other people to make sure that there's nothing out there cheaper that you like as much.  And maybe $1000 just is more money than you are comfortable spending, which is fine.  But if you have the money, and the pictures are really good, the price seems totally reasonable.

That's a fantastic price.  For eight hours of photography with two shooters, an e-session, the digital files, and MAYBE one big print, you can expect to pay at LEAST $3000 here for a decent photographer... and the really good photographers are even more expensive.
