They did my wedding and did a wonderful job! They've been doing photography for a little over a year, so they're still affordable. Also, they started out as wedding videographers, so if you're looking into videos, they could give you a package deal.
You know what's crazy about the whole D.C. area? I really, really, researched the photography category, because I wanted to make sure I had someone I really wanted. And I still haven't heard about any of these people. There are so many great photographers in the area!

wanaimage.com he has great prices...I'm using him for my photography and actually recommended him to one of my friends for her wedding last year and she called me and thanked me for the recommendation and told me how great he was.
We are using Rachel Naft, who is charging us a little under $2k. This is for 8 hours of coverage and a DVD of all images, but no prints or album. I'm basically copying off of my sister and using a lot of the same vendors she had. Her photographer was great (http://www.sandiforaci.com/) so I'm going with her as well! Can't go wrong with that!
Our wedding photographer is Genevieve Leiper located in Ashburn, Virginia. She will travel anywhere in Northern VA/Washington DC. We chose her because of her photojournalistic style. She is absolutely wonderful!!

I'm using Michele Lee of Square Root of Red Photography - we just had our engagement photos done and they were great! She's just starting out, so is pretty affordable.

I'm seconding @deux.etoiles. Jennifer/Brooks is doing my wedding too! I have been floored by everything they've posted since I've met them, but it's something more, too. These girls have become friends--they're SO excited to hear about every wedding detail, have been there for every question I have, and come to drink wine in my backyard. From what I've heard, they're like this with many brides--they see their part of the wedding as capturing you at your "most you," and they have to know you to do that. And did I mention AMAZING photos?
Plus, at packages starting at $1250 for TWO highly qualified photographers, an unlimited day of shoot, and 250 professional quality photos, I just don't think you can beat it.
Our photographer is Katie Stoops of Open Air Photography. I think she does amazing work. www.youropenair.com.
I definitely recommend the photographer I used. I was looking for digital photos as well.
They have a package just for that and its about $1500. However, his albums are great! The photo package includes a dvd slideshow that they put together with music and all.

@ deux.etoiles and UrbanLeo - your recommendation (and the price offered) sounds amazing, but when I go to the photographer's site, it shows her wedding packages starting at $2550 - twice what you say you paid. have her prices doubled in just a few months?
My photographer is Dave Crockett. He's based in Baltimore but works in DC and Virginia too, and his prices are right in your range. We just had our engagement photos taken and they're great! His web site is www.photogig.com.

@pennyDreadful - at the advice of Kimee (above), I contacted Laura Scheidt with Exclamation Photography. She was a bit more expensive than Kimee noted ($1800ish), but included so much more for that amount than I'd seen. My FI and I met with her and she was so nice. The photos on her site are also beautiful. We ended up booking her within a week! Just my $.02 :) Good luck with your search!
we're getting married in frederick and chose a frederick photog, but he has traveled to dc/va as well. he's rather new to the business (he doesn't update his website a lot) but he has an incredibly artistic eye is amazingly nice and available. he has amazing photos that he has done since not on his website, and he is willing and able to do photo journalistic style or traditional. we got his most expensive package of 2 photogs all day for 2500, but has far less packages. check him out! bscottphoto.com

re:srismi, my sister got married October 2009 and she used Rachel. Rachel was EXCELLENT. She was professional and FUN.
She worked by herself and my sister received over 1,600 pictures!
I was the maid on honor and had such a great time working with her as part of the bridal party that I will be hiring her for my wedding now that I am engaged.
I really recommend Rachel Naft!
Meganrose - yes, I realized I never posted about Rachel after the wedding - she was AMAZING! The best part was that she posted our photos less than 3 weeks after the wedding. The day of, she was super-professional and great to work with. By far, she was the best vendor we picked.

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for your responses. Any suggestions for a photographer within a 2K budget in the DC area? We are just looking for photos, not really an album and would like the person to be there for about 7-8 hours. The style we are looking for is a photojournalistic style...
