I'm not getting an album from my photog. I got my sister an album from Shutterfly after her wedding. It was pretty inexpensive ($40) and came out great. I doubt it will hold up forever, but at that cost she can get a new one every 10 years and still be at a fraction of the cost of a professional album. The other great thing was that I could include images all her guests had uploaded instead of just pro-pics.
Otherwise, you can buy albums and put the prints in yourself. If you are really particular about the quality of the prints you can always have your photog make the prints for you.
I've used Blurb and will be using them again for our wedding albums. It's not the heaviest weight paper, but I'm not the kind of person who needs a fancy wedding album. The print quality was great. With shipping and the fee to remove the Blurb logo, it was $48 for a 22-page hardcover book.
Hello,
You did not mention the area in which you lived, but like I have been telling everyone I come across visit weddingwire.com and search for photographers in your area. At least that way you have options.
As a wedding photographer, could I give you some advice. Please do not skimp on your wedding photos. At the end of the day it will be your only source for memories. Do try to find a photographer that will give you an album in your package, they are out there. I give albums in my wedding package, 3 actually. So that website I just gave you can probably help you find some.
I hope that helps, but I might have been a bit confusing so if you have any questions on wedding photography like tips and advice feel free to visit my website and contact me I would be glad to help you out.
Take care,

Hi,
I am surprised that you haven't found photographers that offer packages with albums or ordering albums ala carte with your package. A lot of the money they make comes from extras like prints and albums. But you can also make the albums yourself with all the digital negatives you will receive from your photographer. Shutterfly and Mypublisher are sites that you can make yourself, I have seen Mypublisher books of wedding and engagements they are awesome. Also remember a lot of photographers use sites like these themselves and charge you much more then the cost of doing the albums on your own. Keep that in mind. I have friends that got married in May and are making their own personalized wedding albums for their parents for Christmas using mypublisher. The upside to this is they can pick out their own pictures relevant to different sides of the family and put in text pages with a personalized message to their parents. Just wanted to throw that out there.

I just started checking out photographers for my October 2009 wedding. I've noticed that some of the photographers don't offer albums in their packages. Oddly, I've noticed the pricier the photog the less likely to offer albums in the package. I know my parents are going to want one and I know we'd like one as well...my question to all of you is:
how expensive is it to do the album yourself?
and for anyone who has used blurb.com - how is the quality?
thoughts?
thanks!
