If he's saving you about $2000 I might gift him with $300-500.
Okay. I was thinking somewhere between $250 and $500, so I guess I'm on the right track. Now to decide whether cash or some kind of specialty gift card.
I would recommend cash unless you could find out which retailer he buys most of his supplies from
Will he even take your money? I find that people don't want to take my money or check, but they'll take a gift card more readily
Yeah, I think I would at least include a gift card as part of it bc like EJS said, if he's a friend, he might not even take your money at all! A gift card, tho, since it's already bought and paid for, is hard to turn down...It could even be to like, Starbucks or maybe a nice restaurant in the photographer's town?
That's so nice of your family member to help out! If he's willing to take your cash gift, you might consider giving him what you would have tipped a $2k photog $300-$450. Then again if he's considering this a gift, he might not take anything so I think the other ideas like going out to a really nice restaurant are also good!
I agree with the gift card, especially from B&H Photo like Razvan said. I got the FI's Nikon from there and its a great place, very HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any photographer!
These are all good ideas. Maybe an Amazon.com gift card since he could buy whatever he wanted would be a good compromise, too.
I think you're right, MissEdamame. I don't want to spend a bunch of money only to find out that he would have liked a card to a different store.

We are having a family member shoot our wedding photos. He is a great photographer, and has offered to do this as a gift. We would like to show our appreciation with something other than just a thank you note, possibly a monetary gift or an actual gift. He is saving us about $2000.
Any ideas? Monetary gift? If so, how much?
