What’s your budget?

Our photographer is pretty reasonably priced. $1849 for 10 hours and engagement session and his assistant comes along as 2nd photographer.  He just started doing weddings two years ago which I guess is why he’s not as expensive. I liked the pictures he showed me, he’s exactly the kind of photo style I want, and he was really relaxed and down to earth. http://weddings.cateyefotos.com/

I found him on Yelp. That’s a good place to look for photographers, plus there’s reviews and ratings.

Also try Craiglist under Event Services. A lot of new photographers put their listings there. Some even offer free engagement sessions so they can build up their portfolio. Of course you have to be careful of scams, but that’s with anything not just Craiglist.

My photographer is from Western NY (Rochester/Buffalo area), but he is definitely wlling to travel… http://www.nickdantoniophotography.com

He is very reasonably priced.  If he is from too far away, it still may me a better idea to find a photog from outside of the city – They are likely going to be cheaper than the ones from in the city, even if you need to pay some for travel expenses.

I just had an awesome engagement session yesterday with a photographer from NJ who is just starting out (we knew about her work through our social circle). We did the shoot in Seaside but had discussed Brooklyn so I think that’s part of where she shoots (some of the Botanic Garden shots on her blog are amazing). I saw a very brief sneak peek and am dying to see the rest. She made us really comfortable and had great ideas, it was just an all-round amazing day. Here’s her fb page: http://facebook.com/MeganKhichiPhotography

I was really happy with Studio M+S:

They gave us an incredible deal on our package.

Otherwise, I would go to Craigslist and post an ad. That way you can check out a variety of prices and see their work before contacting them. I would definitely suggest that you not put much of a deposit down for a CL photographer though.

Karen Seifert! Aside from being a total sweetheart, her photos and photobooths are great. She shot my friends wedding/e-pics and they are so good – they even got featured on Brooklyn Bride. She’s giving us an amazing, unheard of for NYC deal – I can’t wait! She recently moved here from VA, so she’s looking to build a base.

@PDuncs:  I don’t know what your budget is, but I LOVE my photographer.  Her photos are romantic, ethereal and beautiful because she shoots 80% film as opposed to digital only.  She is really unique plus she’s an absolute doll.  Her name is Charlotte Jenks Lewis and she is featured on Style Me Pretty etc all the time.  Check her out at http://www.charlottejenkslewis.com

We actually just did our engagement session on Friday and I was really happy at how everything went.  I think it will be great to have her on our wedding day because she’s a great person and is very professional.  I feel like she finds the genuine and authentic emotion in all her subjects instead of cheesiness.

Good luck!

I know how stressful and difficult it is to find a talented and reasonably priced photographer! Have you tried Craigslist or Thumbtack? There are often a lot of photography students and professional photographers starting out that can offer you a great deal!

Have you done an Engagement Session yet? Check out my husband!; we are in Manhattan: http://dappercorporatemonkey.com/

Congratulations and best of luck!
