My FI’s cousin went to school for photography and I love her pictures. We asked her if she would be willing to take our wedding day pictures. We are paying close to what we would pay someone else (maybe 500 less). We were scheduled to skype tonight to go over plans for what we want and anything else she thought (we are skyping because we are both in different locations as well as out of town from the wedding loction, FI’s hometown). I have been waiting for an hour past our originally scheduled time and she still has not called or even let me know that she wouldn’t be calling.
I am worried that if this is how she is that we might be in trouble day of. Will she show up on time, will we get the pictures we want… and the hundreds of other things that could go wrong. My anxiety is starting to build and I am not sure what I should do at this point, if anything.

Well going to school for photography and shooting weddings are two different things. And going to school for photography and being successful in business are also two even more different things. Part of being a good business person is taking every job seriously, regardless of who it’s for and what the pay is. My husband shot my brother’s wedding for free, but even so he had them sign a contract and approached in identically to every other wedding we shoot. He also made sure to set the expectation for deliver times too, since they weren’t going to take priority over our paying clients in that respect. You are technically a client, and they are late to a meeting and that’s not professional. However since there are practically zero good options under $500 for wedding photography I’m really not sure what to tell you. I think the best you can do is try to calmly express your concerns to her and hope she gets it.
