Photographers?

posted 5 months ago in Massachusetts - Western Massachusetts

Who is photographing your wedding? I realize there are tons of photographers semi-nearby (like Boston, NY, or CT) but does anyone know someone in WMass - or who can come here without travel fees? Perhaps someone just to photograph the "getting ready", ceremony, and a few portraits (and who is open to something a little unusual on the portrait end, like what Punam Bean did for Mrs. Tulip?) I actually have a photography student friend who is willing to do photos for me, and I love her work, but because she is a friend and a sometimes flaky friend, I'm a little concerned about having enough photos from her. She's a great portrait photographer but she's never done anything like a wedding.

There are a number of excellent Massachusetts photographers listed on the ISPWP website.

Liesl Hendrichson seems to do a lot of Western MA weddings and is based out that a way: http://www.lieslphoto.com/  Her packages are quite reasonable and she has some pretty photos on her site. We were strongly considering her.

We, however, are importing Ashley O'Dell from near Boston: http://www.aodell.com

I go and look at her site and get all excited. We have a slight travel charge, but totally reasonable. If you can't find a Western MA photog, definitely consider some Bostonians. I posted on Craigslist and got something akin to a billion responses.

Hi -- I'm late to the party so you may already have booked a photographer, but I had a lot of luck negotiating with photographers our of Boston/NY/CT and getting them to drop or substantially reduce their travel fees.  Just tell them you love their work but are really trying to stay w/in budget and ask what they can do for you in terms of reducing travel fees, giving you a discount on albums, etc.  I didn't have a single photographer refuse to try to work with me in some way.  Also, if you're still looking, feel free to shoot me a message and I can provide you with names of a bunch of great photogs that I talked to while I was obsessing over finding the perfect photographer.

Best of luck!

We are using Melissa Mune from Munelit Photographic.  She is based in Buffalo, NY, but is traveling to our wedding in Maryland at no charge.  Her terms say that she will travel 3 hours at no charge, so depending on where you are, you may be within that region.  I also thing she would be really willing to negotiate.  Our wedding is Nov. 1st, so I can't tell you how our pics turned out yet, but I can say that so far she has been really great to work with, and is very responsive, answers all my questions, and her portfolio is great.  Check out:
