Keep in mind that you can always contact photographers and see their price ranges and a la carte pricing and if they look out of your budget but you are still interested you can thank them for the information, compliment them on their work and let them know that they are a bit out of your price range. I believe one of the bees awhile back mentioned she had done that and many wrote back to say they were willing to work with her a bit by customizing a package to fit her price range. You never know until you try.
I can't speak personally for any of these photographers since we used someone else but I wouldn't recommend the person we worked with as we've had to get a lawyer involved at this point.
A friend of mine had John Ly for her December wedding and the pictures turned out awesome. I was looking at monkey-tree, pink posh and serendipity. We decided on Pink Posh because I really like her style and albums. She's also done many of my friends' weddings and her work on each was fabulous. Her rates are on her website. If she's out of your price range, I'd still contact her and see if she might be willing to negotiate.
I would also recommend Pink Posh...you get a really great deal for your buck! Also look into Christine Tremoulet or Studio 563.
One of our family members uses Carlino's and their pictures are always great! Rachel Ray used them when she came to Houston to throw weddings for people affected my the hurricane!
I had a bad experience with a Houston-based photographer who I had to fire. If you are worried it might be him, PM me and ask! :) I can tell you that he isn't mentioned in any of the replies so far, so that's good!

He went to Brooks Institute in California and shoots with a photojournalism style you are talking about. You get unlimited day coverage, a CD and a leather bound album for about $2300. If you don't want an album, I'm sure it will be even less!
Sharon Nicole's one of my new fav photogs to blog stalk. I met Sharon Nicole when she shot my friend's wedding which I was a bridesmaid for. She has great style & I love her bold colored photos. While I don't know exactly what she's charging, she's still relatively new to the industry and I think her prices are reasonable. http://sharonnicolephotography.com/
i second Sharon Nicole... although i don't know her personally, i went to the same college as her and she did tons of senior photos and weddings of my friends and classmates. i don't know her rates either but i really like the photos she took of my roommates wedding. =)

I'm using a photographer named Julie Wilhite. She's budget friendly and her work is wonderful.
If you have more money to spend, I think Pink Posh is the best! I also really like Studio 563
Don't forget that Mrs. Avocado is now a photographer under Jenna Cole (Dallas based) and her wedding photographer Kelli Nicole is now in Houston too.
I can second the nominations for Serendipity and Christine Tremoulet. We're friends with them, and they do a wonderful job!
...and I just saw that your wedding already happened! Oh well, info for the next bride, lol!

I am getting married on 08-08-09, and I am currently searching for a photographer. I don't want to spend to much (around $2500 at most), but I want the pictures to be awesome (of course)! Does anyone have any suggestions? I prefer photographers that produce the type of pictures that make them blend in the crowd.. natural and romantic.. nothing too obnoxious.
