I don’t have one (hooray being in the ‘industry’!) but most people around my area pay a holding deposit (somewhere between $100-$500 depending on the photog) then when they sign the contract pay half the total…  and the balance is due on the wedding day.

Hope that helps!

We paid 50% down and 50% 30 days before. I would be very careful about paying full down. What happens to the money if your photographer get hit by a car or something? Also if you can pay it with a credit card so you have some buyer protection on it. 😉

Our total is around $2500 for our photog and the required deposit was $400 with the balance due on the day of wedding. I’ve never heard of having to pay the entire balance so far in advance.

we paid $1000 down, will pay $2000 2 weeks before and the balance will be due when we get our proofs.  i would agree and be wary of putting down a full payment, at least be sure to read the contract to see if there is a provision that covers emergencies where the photographer would not be able to cover your wedding.

50% deposit was required.

I cant remember if the other 50% is 30 days before or day of/few days before.

50% deposit and remaining due 2 weeks before date – I guess that’s kind of the norm.

Our total was about 1200. Our deposit was $200, with $500 due a month before the wedding and $500 due when we got our edited CD’s from him

Ours was 50% at the contract signing and 50% the day of the wedding.

Our deposit was 40% to hold the date, and the rest is due I think 2 weeks before the wedding.

Since we bargained with him (added a whole bunch of extras for the same price) he asked for the full balance at time of signing. I told him I didn’t have that much up front so we ended up agreeing on 50% at time of signing and 50% in July 2011 which will be about 8 months before the wedding.

*ALWAYS* ensure you read your contract for cancellation plan if needed.

1/3 of the deposit when we signed the contract which was $566 we pay another 1/3 90 days before the deposit and the remaining balance 30 days before the wedding date.

We made a 25% deposit.  I was actually prepared to pay 50%.

We left a 50% deposit, and the rest of it was due 2 weeks before the wedding.
