After seeing a lot of different Day After photo sessions, I’m really interested in doing one in place of my bridal session, but I’m not 100% sure. I was wondering what others think is better, and reasons why would be great to hear as well.

I think it depends on what you’re looking for. The traditional bridal sessions can be really beautiful and give you classic bridal portraits that you can keep forever. Day-after sessions can give you fun, creative shots that you can also keep forever 🙂 So it probably depends on whether you’re looking for smething more classic or something more unique.Â

EmilyB: We’re having a Day After session because we’re having such a large wedding. We don’t want to spend Cocktail Hour doing a photo shoot while the guests mill about… A lot of our guests are coming from a long way so we’d like a chance to talk to all of them. We’re going to do a short photo shoot before the ceremony with the bridal party and possibly a few photos with family during cocktail hour, but after it’s all about mingling with the guests. The Day After will give us an opportunity to take pictures of just the two of us without any stress. Some couples use it as a more creative session (like Trash the Dress).

I’m not doing either – I’m actually doing a TTD session in place of both of those, I don’t find the traditional shots to be needed, and their not really "my style" per say, so we’ve decided to skip it.
I think Jasmine makes a good point though and it’s really what kind of shot your looking for, should lead you to the right session.

My preferred photography style is more unique, in-the-moment, fun and creative shots. I’m not a big fan of posed photography. So for me, I would definitely pick the Day After session or a TTD session over a bridal portrait session. But like others have said, if you really love the classic and timeless look of posed bridal shots, then you will probably value that more. It’s all about your style.
