What did you pay for your photographer all said and done? I want to know what his/her fee was just for taking the pictures and then what you paid to order the pictures… I am just BLOWN AWAY by what photographers charge BEFORE you even order the pictures. I would really like to see some figures so I know if I am being taken advantage of…

Here in Cali, I found a “deal” in my eyes when I got my photographer for 11 hours, plus a small print package and our album and a cd of all our photos for $3000. Hope this helps a bit!

@pengoala: Yeah that does sound like a deal. I’m in Mississippi and just agreed to pay $2500. That doesn’t include any photos, CD, ANYTHING. I have to pay for all that extra. I had no idea photography was so expensive…

@lucyv2003: Well I paid a lot more than that, but I got the digital images (and I’m in the DC area which I assume would be more expensive than Mississippi). As long as they give you the digital images you can have them printed at Adoramapix, Mpix, or even Costco pretty inexpensively (rather than pay a small fortune to order them through your photographer).

@lucyv2003: It really is all up to the photographer… Some are high and some are low. I would say stay away from the really low, as you tend to get what you pay for.
Just as a guesstimate, I would say that if you are in the $2500-4000 range, are getting 8 hrs of coverage, 2 photographers, some prints (5×7’s, 8×10’s- ish), CD of edited images, online gallery, and maybe at the top end of that price an album; then you are good.
Like I said, that is just a guess. Each photographer is different and justifies their prices in different ways. I would make sure that you know ALL of the costs for everything that you could possibly want BEFORE you sign a contract.
Please let me know if I can answer anymore questions for you.

P.S. Pricing also depends A LOT on area. LA photogs are going to get more than a photographer in Jasper Indiana. Just the way that it is…

We paid $1500 for two photographers, no hours limit, a really nice keepsake box with 18 profesionally printed and mounted 5*7 prints, an 11*14 print and a CD of the pictures. She did give us the family rate because she has know DH for years and was is photography mentor. However that package still only cost $2500 and we could print as many as we want. I think $2500 PLUS having to pay them for all your prints is a little steep. And in Mississippi? Cost of living and wages and such are similar there are in Texas I think and even in big cities in Texas where things cost more photographers with prices like that include SOMETHING, some prints, a cd, print credits…

@BEPhoto: Yeah, we actually are getting all day coverage (no time limit) so I guess that is good.

We paid around $1500 for one photographer for 7 hours of coverage. This included digital copies of all of our pictures for no extra charge! We did decide to add on a package which was maybe $150 more for an 11 x 14, a bunch of 8 x 10s, and a few 5 x 7s.

We are paying $3500 for all day coverage for two photographers and they set up a photo booth and I used those 4×6 prints as a favor for the guests. It had our names and wedding date down in the corner of each picture. The guests loved it! The price does not include any albums or prints for us 🙁 But I do get the edited digital prints and they actually let my brother in law use their video camera and they will put the footage on a disc for me. I’m in upstate NY.

$3500 for 8 hours with two photographers, engagement session, big album with the pictures of our choice, disk with all images, slideshow on DVD, small album with all pictures in 4×6, plus a $100 print credit. We also decided to pay extra to add a guestbook with photos of our engagement session.

In metro Detroit, paying $2400 for two photographers for 10 hours, also includes a 4 hour engagement shoot, rights to all the pictures, and a guest book of our engagement photos (that we probably won’t use at the reception, but will be a nice keepsake).
I thought I was paying a lot, and like PPs have said, it depends on the area, but every time I look at the stuff my photographer puts on her site, I am blown away! She’s also been great at responding to all of my ridiculous questions, which means a lot to me as well.

In Boston we’re paying $2200 for two photographers, unlimited hours, engagement session, all images edited and on a CD with rights.

I’m in DC, 3200, full day 1 photographer coverage plus an engagement session. I get a DVD of all edited high-res images.
I also get access to a gallery with all images and I think I can order individual prints off there (if I want something that wasn’t edited, or I don’t want to print the ones I have myself I guess.)
I’m paying 850 on top to get an album.
